Default Paint comes off, on Radio Panel

I was detailing my car yesterday, and when I sprayed some Air Deodorant in my car, some of it landed on the Radio Panel (where u set the temperature), and it wont come off.

When I tried to take it off with a little bit of Windex (sprayed on the cloth first of course) it "took" off the paint, i didnt know it was painted on? It shows a silver underneath it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I had a similar problem with my RX300 - the paint started coming off just under the radio station select buttons and underneath the beige interior paint finish was black plastic - looked real ugly. Lexus replaced this as the paint shouldn't have worn off. Your situation is a little different, as they could claim carelessness/abuse on your part. But, the paint on their interior shouldn't come off with Windex!

I would ask your Lexus dealer if this can be replaced under warranty, but don't get pissy with them - you catch more flies with honey than vineger!

Sorry for all the posts, but this has never happened to me in my other cars? I was really pissed off? Who would know this? I cleaned all my cars with this stuff before? This is weird?

I agree w/above--try to get the dealer to replace it. Standard household cleaner should not strip your dash.

Amonia is acidic and I hope other CL members learn from this. I am sure the OP was unaware of the potential for the interior plastic to become worn instantly. This use to be very common in the gen 1 Altima around the radio control. There are some companies that fix these things for dealers. They typically use a paint application. As for the 2gen, the interior dash plastic will have to be replaced to look proper as the finish retains a flat look and it is more difficult to color match.

Never use Windex to clean the interior. It's not just Lexus, it happened to my Maxima too. I was stupid enough to use Windex to clean the stereo, what do you know it faded the text on the stereo buttons and smeared.

Just use a black sharpie to cover it up. j/k
By looking at your pics, I don't think it looks that bad. But if it really bothers you, take it into the dealership to see if it's covered under warranty.

The windex alone didn't do it...

The chemical in the spray Air Deordant started the process...

Also, this is why I use Meguiars Interior Quick detailer.. +

The fastest way to clean all interior surfaces. Use every time you wash or Quik Detail your paint to give your interior that “just detailed” look. In just 5 additional minutes, your entire interior will look sharp and smell fresh. Quickly and easily maintains the look and feel of interior plastics, vinyl, leather, rubber, metal and even audio/video equipment. The safe, high lubricity formula lifts off dust, ashes, dirt, grime, spills and fingerprints without build-up. And, unlike traditional protectants that leave an artificial greasy feeling, Quik Interior Detailer leaves your interior™ surfaces looking natural and revitalized. Simply spray on, spread evenly with an Ultra Plush Super Terry or Supreme Shine® Microfiber and turn to a dry section of the towel for the final wipe off.

That stuff works well for not making a high gloss shine. If I did not use the OEM vinyl protectant, I would use that again.
