Default Is the front grill easy to take off and paint black?

I rather use the existing grill than to order a new black grill with L emblem. I was wondering if painting the stock grill with be ideal and what is the best method. I really hate the chrome around the border TIA

taking it off is easy but the most complicated part is putting back the weather strip. what i did was take a small precision screwdriver stuck the screwdriver intro the middle opening of the plastic piece and took the whole clip out of the hole and then put it back on the weather strip. I dont know about painting the grill, there are many that did it so it shouldnt be that hard just takes alot of time.

I got it removed and installed in less than 15 minutes. Now I am happy with the grill surround matching my car color

DOH!!! I got spotted riding ghetto style until I put my grille back on!!!

Taking the grill off is not hard at all - it's a total of four clips and one 10mm bolt. Like everyone else said, just be careful taking off the weather stripping. What I did was squeeze the little plastic retainer clips so as to leave them in the weather stripping, and take it off as one piece.

Well, I don't know if you've seen my car or not, but I have a high-contrast theme going on with my glacier frost mica vs. the black roof, tinted windows, and black wheels. I've already got the bezel back from the painter but I haven't put it on yet because I'm waiting for the paint to cure a bit. I plan on putting it back on Saturday, and I'll post pics then. In the meanwhile, CL member xtraboost has done this already, and his car is crystal white to boot: (photo courtesy of T-Rex06)

I like it but I'm curious as to how painted grilles hold up to rock chipping.
