Default HID (BMW retrofit)

ok i have a question i am running BMW HIDs (Ballast and bulb) in my car for the past year and never mentioned it on the forum. I had to basically change out the connectors on the IS so that i can fit the connector on the BMW Ballast. My question is that i am wondering if i purchase new HID bulbs are they all a universal fit for the HID Ballast? And if i get a higher wattage of bulbs (i.e. 6000K or 8000K) will the ballast need to be upgraded or it doesnt really matter the bulb will do the work?

BTW if your wondering why im using the BMW Ballast and Bulbs its because i got them from FREE!!!

6000k or 8000k is the color temperature, it has nothing to do with wattage or ballasts. HID's are usually 35Watt bulbs. You can run any color temp, you just need to buy the right bulb. Check the bulb type by removing your BMW bulbs and looking at the actual type printed on it ie. D1S D2S D2R etc.

Ballasts are univerals and wattage is the same regardless of the kelvin index per bulb. The kevlin index is based off the arch produced from the igniter within the enclosed bulb. As for the bulbs being universal, I believe per manufacturer, they will be the same adapter within the harness from the bulb to the connector of the ballast (I.E Phillips, Osram, Zen Tech etc,)
