Curb Rash on New '08 18" Rim.....
Hey All,
Well, after having my car for about a month, she got her first scratch.
I was making a sharp turn and nicked my rim on the curb.
I have searched and searched, and cannot find answers to my questions.
I know the 2008 18" Rims are different than years past - a bit darker than the 18" upgrade on the 06 and 07's. Some articles say you can sand and paint them to match, but I do not think this is the case with the newer rims since they are a different color.
I used to have a BMW with M3 wheels, and I had a company sand and repaint all 4 rims to match - but those were light silver alloys.
Any ideas as to what I can do? Might be cheaper to buy a new rim since they are about $150 per.

really .. I was looking on eBay and saw the cheaper price, but was for the older rims (06/07) .. its the same style, but different coating of course....so maybe youre right, my bad!
edit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-Le...spagenameZWDVW
That's $600 for the set, $150 per rim .... but 2006/2007 style...
$400 on a rim (08') to replace one with curbrash is ridiculous.. not the route i want to take.
in any case, help in how to fix them up??? thanks!

I found out, that i have a curb rash on the passenger side front wheel. I was pissed because it doesnt look like i hit the curb but it looks faily old( the chunk that was missing is all dusty and what not) so it doesnt look like it happened recently.
I just had to face there was a nick on the rim already, i bet it was from the dealer when they were prepping the car...

I like my 2006 IS 18'' alloy wheels better and just got a steal on a takeoff set from another member.
I have seen the new ones at the dealer and they seem to look a lot better on lighter colored IS's. The Tungsten and Liquid graphite combo looked great.
the Black 08 IS I saw on the lot looked just plain. But that's how I saw it.

well, i tried fixing the wheel ..
bad news ..... when you go to sand the liquid graphite , a black undercoat comes through ..you can sand down through that and get to the silver alloy..... you can easily sand the rash down, but on the edges where you sand and where the oem finish lies, you'll get a thin black line. totally sucks.
i believe the only way to get rid of it is to physically re-paint the area.
anyone know of a spray paint, or regular paint that is exactly like the "liquid graphite"?
Thanks
