IS Sales
Does anyone know how the sales numbers have been for the IS? Toyota Corporate has been reporting increases in total cars sold but only mentions the ES and LS sales. The GS and IS have been absent for a while
Is this an indicator that sales are slipping?

So, as of the end of October, the IS has been steady. No significant increases/decreases in sales as far as the end of the year totals are concerned.

IS sales are right where Lexus thought they would be when it was introduced two years ago. I think they are very satisfied with the response of the public to the IS.

The average transaction price continues to drop, judging from the pricing thread and pricing services, though. Which is typical for an aging model. At least people are still buying them though. The IS does hold value extremely well.

Maybe for the IS250, but I don't think IS350 prices are dropping at all. In fact, the IS350 is probably harder to find now than it was a year ago. That will keep prices up.

PhilipMSPT, that chart is great. It could help someone going into the dealership, where any car you pick "is really hot right now." 
Hilarious. Still waiting for mine, and not seeing many in N.Ky. I can't wait to stand out, but I worry about a thief. I've never had a car worth taking!

I think the ES steals the buyers away from the GS. Most ES drivers are older and could probably afford the GS. But since the less expensive ES is available, they go for the ES. The ES and GS are also similar in size and other features that makes them compete with each other. Lexus needs to distinguish the GS more from the ES so that they attract buyers that are looking into the BMW 5-series or Audi A6. The GS hybrid does help distinguish it from the ES though.

Exactly. In the press conferences for the ES 350, Lexus execs gave stats showing that the ES buyers are those that graduate to LS, or stay with the ES over generations, and now moving up to the Ultra Luxury ES model.
From my POV, the idea with the 3GS was to make it more BMW 5-series like, as an alternative choice just like the 2IS is an alternate to the BMW 3-series. It appears however that the 2IS was much more successful in tackling the entry sport-luxury market than the 3GS. The 2IS is one of the top 10 best-selling luxury vehicles in the US (Lexus has 3, more than any other luxury make).
Of course, as sales PR goes, Lexus probably mentions the LS and ES more because they are still the original 2 vehicles of the division, and because they are the newest models (2006 premieres as 2007); the IS and GS were a year or two before.
