Default Is there a way to disable mirror auto-dimming?

Internal rear view mirror is always in AUTO mode when I start my car. I would like to have dimming OFF by default, and turn it on manually when I want it.

Is this possible in 2007 IS350?

I would ask the dealer if it's an LPS setting.

Don't see how you can do that on this model. My old Acura had a button that was actually depressed, so you click it out so it would be set to off. But the Lex has a button that's electronic, so it always resets--same as my Honda.

Mostly it's just a matter of habit and personal preference (I don't like greenish tint). Since I drive in the city most of the time, I don't need dimming. Brighly lit freeways and streets let my eyes adapt very well.

BUT, because of dimming I actually see less in the rear view mirror. Consider people driving on night freeways and in tunnels with their headlights off. It's very typical for Seattle. I wonder why "tunnel == headlights on" rule it's not enforced in WA.

I agree completely. Turning off the mirror is the first thing I do after starting the car.

I wish there was a way to default to it being "off." But I checked the owner's manual, and looked at the printed list of LPS when I was last at the dealership, and that was not one of the options.

Maybe there's a non-OEM replacement mirror with a button that will stay in the off position?

I was told by the dealer that the green compass letter could not be set to default as off, so every time I drive I have to manually hold down the button until it shuts off.
