Default Winter Tire/Rim Questions

Been trying to find a new set of rims, and snow tires so that I can do straight swaps at the change of the seasons.

I was looking at discount tire direct, and they currently have a deal going on where you save $100 when buying 4 tires, and $100 when you buy 4 wheels.

I noticed they have a 18" tire/wheel package for the IS ~$1000 mounted/balanced/shipped. (The hankook tires in the package seem to generally get decent reviews, even on CL from what I've seen.) Has anyone tried this package?

Has anyone tried their rims? Is it bad to buy cheapie rims (<$200)? What are the good value brands?

Suggestions on alternatives are appreciated too.

tx

You might get lucky and find someone selling their stock wheels..I just bought a new set of aftermarket wheels..but am haning onto the stockers in case I decide to buy dedicated snow tires or want to swap them back someday (e.g. trade in time)..but you might find someone who wants to dump their OE wheels for a decent price..Craigslist or ebay maybe..or get lucky here

I just picked up a set of Lexus factory 17 rims and sensors and center caps from Sewell for a pretty good price. They are the stock 17" rims that come on the IS. The cost for everything shipped to Colorado with the CL discount was $894.40. Then I ordered some Bridgestone LM25 Blizzacks from Discount tire for about $800.00. It is a little bit pricey but very close to the same cost at Tire Rack, and I don't mind the look of the stock rims. It is a bit more than you are looking at but the Blizzacks have always worked great in the snow and the factory wheels still look clean on the car.

OP, don't forget that if you do not install the TPMS sensors. You will have the annoying warning on your dash.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm going to price out the 17" OEM tires, I think they look nice and would probably be cheaper, have a wider variety of tires available, cheaper tires, etc. I am wondering now how much the oem tpms usually sells for. Also, I saw that the 18" Lexus OEM ISP rims where < $230 a piece and now i'm trying to convince myself i don't need them..lol
