Debating between IS 250 and IS 350
First off, not looking for a race car. Just a nice commuting vehicle to replace my 2000 VW Passat with a 2.8L V6 (190 HP, tons of torque).
Will an IS 250 leave me feeling that I've traded down in the powe department? Frannkly I have past tickets and I don't need anything that tempts me to get more.
Thoughts?

I think you answered your own question. The IS250 is a great cruiser that has plenty of power unless your a closet street racer.
Great mileage and very quiet. I drove both and while the IS350 had the legs on the 250 once you realize you don't drag race at every light (at least most adults don't) you'll be glad you settled on the IS250 to meet your needs

I just bought a new 250 and everyone warned me it would be so slow compared to my Celica. Sure my Celica was fast above 6k rpms, but I never used that power because it was my to work and back car. I'm very happy with the 250 and it's nice to drive automatic again

you need a car that starts shaking at 75 and above, and doesn't have a 6th gear like the IS...
but if you promise to behave, I allow you to get an IS.

Simply test drive them both. If undecided, test drive again. The last thing you want is buyer's remorse. The insurance costs between the two is probably minimal and both cars are more than capable of earning a speeding ticket. For many, it is worth the extra $$ to have the power and perhaps a bit of prestige. For many others, it is not worth the $$.
