Default coating on stock rims are flaking off

i have noticed that the coating on my stock rims is flaking off. has anyone else had this same problem. i don't think the flaking is due to road damage because I cannot see any scratches, dents, etc.

Do you use a spray on wheel cleaner?

Have you forcefully hit any potholes or speedbumps or the such?

Although the wheel may not have dents, you could have still caused enough vibratory damage to the metal that would weaken the coating. Just a thought...

yeah that's the only thing i can think of that could do this. your cleaner might be too harsh for the wheels or you might be letting the cleaner set in too long.

i just just soap and water and a wash rag. I don't recall hitting any speed bumps or pot holes at a high speed. i'll probably have lexus take a look.

I doubt this is caused by wheel cleaner. The wheels are clear coated, and it sounds like premature clear coat failure. I would bring this as a warranty claim.

I use Eagle 1 A2Z cleaner, which is pretty strong stuff, and it hasn't harmed any wheels on any of my three vehicles over the past five years (+-). As a matter of fact, I've never seen any modern wheel cleaner harm finishes, although I'm sure it could if you use it improperly.
