bump! I'm going to be re-wiring my sub today with the same 4-chan LOC that tt061880 used... The goal is to get a more full-range and balanced signal going to my subwoofer... I'll post the results later...

Default Success!

Huge thanks to tt061880 for taking the time to explain what he did and why...

I basically did the exact same thing, except I decided only to use 2 channels, the subwoofer, and only ONE of the front woofers... I individually balanced each channel and the result is SO MUCH better... I now have full bass frequency, not just the 30-80hz provided by the stock subwoofer speaker... I turned the crossover on my JL Amp on and everything sounds perfect... 30hz to around 100hz... The lows are balanced with the rest of the system now as well...

Here are a few pics as always..

First- The wiring harness from the factory ML amp that I cut into:

Second - The factory amp with Scosche 4-channel LOC tucked away nicely:

Third - With the cover on, it looks just like factory:

Fourth - View of the trunk, you can see the JL amp mounted under the rear deck:

Thanks again to tt061880!!!!

you're welcome man, glad you like it, I figured the SUB output alone wasn't enough the first time I heard it, it has a lot of bass but it was missing a lot of notes.

I have a question?

When you sum the front channls togather,do you lose sound as well as quallity? also does the Nav directions sound the same or lower when you use it?

Another question - what was the purpose of using both the front left AND front right speakers (as well as the sub of course) and combining them to feed into the LOC, as opposed to just the front right OR the front left.

Do you believe you got a more balanced sound by combining the front left and right?

No changes. You are just tapping into the front channels, not changing anything about what you hear from those speakers...

I only did one of the front channels, the left I believe... Doing both is better because you will get a fuller range of sound since most recordings are 2.0 (left and right) and certain bass notes MIGHT be only on one channel, but are usually on both...

how much of this original post applies to non ML owners? I am planning on doing my own sub install, but I don't have ML. Any suggestions?

Would like to know as well, as far as wire tapping and colors to use. Great thread.

I have the non-ml system. I used this post's information:

T-tap wires on the front woofer speaker wires. The right front door woofer wires are Brown (+) and Pink (-). The left front door woofer wires are White (+) and Red (-). Or you could just tap the factory sub wires to the new amp. The sub factory wires are sort of confusing on the schematics I have. The wires are either Pink (+) and Sky Blue (-) or Brown (+) and Light Green(-). Just pick the colors that are at the speaker for your install.

I am waiting to have someone tell us for sure which is the remote turn on for the non-ml system. I have heard different colors, but need someone here to let us know for sure. Right now my amp stays on while the car is on. Need to change this ASAP.
