Oooo blacked out look I see? That should be really hot. It really depends on what you want. If you want to spend 100 or so then go to any paint shop and they'll do a good job. If you want to spend 12 bucks then go to autozone and pick up some tint spray and clearcoat and do it yourself and feel very accomplished everytime you look at them. If you're not sure you want black lights get some vinyl overlays.

Well when I was considering doing it, I called up a local body shop that also painted cars. It was recommended to me when I asked my tint shop if they tinted tail lights. They said they send them over to this body shop. They quoted me 120 for a tint paint and clear coat. However I got to thinking and decided not to because I know its illegal here and if I ever got a fix-it ticket for it Id have to replace the whole tail light since Im sure Id never be able to get that paint off!

Not to sound overly nieve... what exactly is "tint spray" and "clearcoat"?

Isn't that soap and water and tint film? Thanks....

I took the advice of many of the IS owners on this board and used Aero Tect (www.aerotect.net). You can order the film (which comes with an instructional video) and do it yourself/have a tint shop do it for you or go to Aerotect and have them do it for you. I live in SD as well and could not find anyone that could tint my lights locally that I was comfortable with or that did the work at a reasonable price. Not trusting myself to apply the film on my own, I ended up driving up to Aerotect and having them do it. They did a great job. I like the film method vs. spray since it can easily be taken off which was key for me.

Is it illegal in California??? i mean i see soccer moms driving around with that all day. For me its either blacking them out or Reding them out. But i have black rims on order so i feel that the blacked out tail lights would be in order.

Tint spray is a spray that is kind of like a gel. It goes on light the first coat and then gradually gets darker.

Here are mine BEFORE clear coat, I wanted to see how the dull look would look..
