On my way home from work today, I lost my power steering! It became really tough to turn the steering wheel and I could barely get it into my driveway.

Has anyone had this happen to their IS? Mine is only a year and a half old with about 20K miles, so I can't believe it.

I had it towed to the dealer and will see what they say in the morning. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it's covered by the warranty. It has to be, doesn't it?

there is no reason why it shouldn't be covered, this is clearly something they should fix free of charge , unless you've been doing donuts ??

Maybe yes, maybe no. Some of us remember when power brakes were optional, and saw the famous six-pack when it was new technology.

Or when "factory air" was a big deal because there were so many crap aftermarket units for cars purchased without a/c.

I think they still make those. Enterprise was nearly out of cars and stuck me in some kind of subcompact (Kia, perhaps?) with manual windows not too long ago.

I remember when power door locks were a very unusual option. Instead of working with electrical solenoids like in modern cars, they used engine vacuum (stored in a cannister) to actuate the locks. If you locked and unlocked the car a few times without starting the engine, the locks would stop working.

My dad had a '75 BMW with one of those aftermarket units. It put out plenty of cold air, but it caused the car to overheat any time he got stuck in traffic.

Never. I'm 23, and I got my first car when I was almost 17, which was a '95 Civic EX coupe. Twelve years ago my car had power windows. I wouldn't accept anything else.

hehe, I had an '85 3.3 911 Turbo (the 930 model) that thing had no AWD (which all porsche turbo's have), no a/c, no power steering and only 4 manual gears!

Some newer cars still have manual roll down windows, on my friend's '04 Dodge SRT-4 the front two windows are power and the two rear windows are manual , I could never figure out why they would make the car like that?

p.s. I work for Enterprise and yea a couple of our low level cheapie cars have the manual roll down windows, and they are soooo slow !!!! lol

Sounds like a problem with the power steering pump or power steering ECU or something. Either way this should be covered under warranty no problem.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading all the old school tech stories However, try to keep it somewhat on topic.
