Default check your remote batteries guys!

just wanted to let you guys know to pick up some extra remote batteries. i ended up locking my key in my car today. trust me, its not impossible to lock your smartkey in the car. my battery in one of my remotes died and it allowed me to lock the key in the car. luckily i was at home and grabbed the other remote and got it out. i tried it again and again and it will lock the remote if the battery is dead or dying.

for reference the battery for the remote is a CR1632. It was a PITA for me to find a replacement. I tried several stores wal-mart, tweeter, circuit city, target, radio shack and the battery could not be found in stock. I ended up finding a specialty battery store that had it. im sure the dealer has them, but my dealer is out of the way.

how old is your car? I think the battery last ~1-1.5 years?

+1. This happened to me last week, and my local dealer replaced the battery for free. Fortunately, I'm a 5 minute drive from the dealership.

the only indication that i had that the battery was dying was the light on the fob quit lighting up when i locked or unlocked the doors. also, the car stopped recognizing the keyfob when i walked up to the door. a couple times i had to put the keyfob right next to the ignition just to start the car.

and no, walgreens and CVS both do not carry the CR1632 batteries. well at least the ones in my area dont.

I posted a thread similar to this when my key fob battery died an early death shortly after picking up the car. Lots of good info in the thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=202623

thank, yes i remember that thread. i just went out to my car to find the batteries that i stashed away, i'm going to go ahead and change batteries right away just for kicks, after after all they've been in use over a year now already. might as well use from fresh batteries.
