Default Attention Oil Changers

Just wanted everyone to know there is another alternative to the Toyota SST $36 oil filter wrench (for use on the IS 350). I called Snap-On tools and they now have a filter wrench for our car. Snap-on told me that they get the tool from AST (asttool.com) and the part # is TOY640 (though it is a Snap-On tool if you buy it from Snap-On). It costs ~$18. It lists on the AST website as a 64mm oil filter wrench. The Toyota SST lists their wrench as a 65mm wrench. I asked Snap-On, what if their 64mm wrench won't fit and they said it would, otherwise I could return it (as long as I follow their return policy protocols). Thought some of you "do it yourselfer's" would appreciate this info...

Too expensive. Try here.

BTW, the flats measure 64mm with a caliper, but everyone sells a 65mm tool. No idea why, it just is.

I got a cap wrench from pep boys for about $5. Works pretty well, just gets stuck every now and then. Do you know if the Snap-On wrench will get stuck as well?

i think they will all get mildly stuck. after you are done snugging down the filter housing cap with the wrench, just give it a very quick tap counter clockwise and it should unstick the wrench.

I have this tool as well, it works like a charm. Much better then using the cheapo Filter cap wrench you can get locally.

Me dealer sold me an Oil Filter Wrench, not a Lexus part. It's called RiteFit Oil Filter Wrench. PN A265. See the PDF attachment below:

http://www.ctatools.com/catalogs/200...5OilFilter.PDF

Dealer charged me $4.18 for it. Seems like a bargain. Listed as 64mm, 14 flutes.

Are any of those wrenches made of steel ?
The plastic wrench I tried snapped like a twig long before the filter cap broke loose.

my TOY640 is made of steel and works great. It definitely has to be 64mm to give you that "snug" fit feeling.

i started off using these oil filter wrenches but i realized the more i use it the more i'm stripping the filter cap. Eventually I was unable to make good contact between the oil filter wrench and filter cap.

Now I'm just using a universal band wrench that covers filter cap sizes between 50mm and 80mm. I find that the band wrench makes it 10x easier to remove the oil filter cap. The only problem is you cannot use it with a torque wrench to tighten it. But I just hand tighten it and never had a problem.

Something similiar I found on google:
