I intentionally change my oil on a section of pavement that slopes downhill; works perfectly -- car is level when on rhino ramps.

Yes it is. You might want to add a bit of oil afterwards though.
(You loose some oil with the filter)

Some of us can afford a $40K car because we change our own oil. Much appreciate to brel523 for the great pics and advice.

I would suggest getting a couple pieces of plywood (2x2) to put under them to distribute the weight of those ramp edges. It always makes me nervous seeing a car lifted on anything but a level concrete surface. Good job.
theres a secret to that filter remover.. lol tap it with something thats metal, solid, and kinda thick. the vibration it gives off loosens it.. my old quick lube experiences at lexus. i leave the filter remover on the filter. release my ratchet and tap the filter remover with the ratchet and it will loosen up. OR while its stuck. pull the ratchet with the filter remover at a angle and usually that works (i use this method more unless its stuck on there reallyy good) but this isn't a big issue ever

To the OP: Avoid removing the oil filler cap till later to reduce the oil gushing out and making a mess

The picture hosting must have expired. Can you please repost the pics? This is a great write up. Although I've changed my oil before using this post I still like to look at it as a refresher. Nice job and excellent instructions!

I just changed my oil 20 mins ago. Great write up!

Here's another helpful link I found at http://lexustech.org/Oil.htm

If anyone is interested, pennzoil is running a 15 dollar rebate off 5 quarts of their platinum full synthetic oil. The oil is only 20 at walmart so that amounts to 1 dollar a quart! not a bad deal I thought
