Basically I've found that by using ECT snow mode when sitting in stop and go traffic I'm getting about 3mpg more per tank than I was getting compared to ECT PWR.
Considering I'm driving 41 miles 1 way to work, I'll take every MPG I can get.
I'm now getting high 23mpg, not bad for a 350 IMO.
someone else posted this and said the same thing. i just always forget about that switch as i never use it except when there is snow since i have summer tires on my car...
never thought about the "snow" mode can be used like that...i just tried using the "snow" when it rained...maybe i should try using "snow" mode when traffic~~
I guess if its really difficult for one to push the button the yes.... But the traffic I'm in is either stop n go or moving, so it's really not all that hard to do.
can you just put it in Neutral if you're concern about higher revs robbing your MPG? Just curious....
That isn't advised. Basically these new cars adjust the injector to flow to almost nothing (maybe even nothing?) when foot is off the gas. All it will lead to is early tranny problems.
Basically the snow mode adjusts the throttle response. So when its mentioned it keeps the revs low, it's really that you have a lot more throttle control to keep the revs down from a standing start. It is kind of like this.... If you were to push the pedal down 50% in snow mode; in order to get the same acceleration from PWR mode it would only take 10% of travel. So more pedal to play with makes it easier to control the standing start revs. The tranny will switch at the earliest point possible, keeping the overall range of revs down.
I tried the ECT snow button earlier today, and some concerns arose.
If I cruise around LA with the ECT snow mode enabled for the whole trip, is it unhealthy for the car?
Not really.
It will just respond to you as if you were driving more conservatively. it's similar to driving a manual tranny car, but upshifting a little sooner than usual. That's all...
