lots of bad luck at once!
After not getting any tickets or having any mechanical problems for the past 15 months, check out what has happened to me in the past week:
1) I didn't realize my state inspection sticker had expired. My 10k mile service, including state inspection, was on Tuesday this week. Of course, my car was parked on the street on Sunday, TWO DAYS before my inspection, and I got a ticket for $65 for having an expired inspection sticker.
2) On Thursday, I got my windows tinted. I'll put up some pics when I have good ones. I got 54% on all windows except windshield. Even though this is somewhat past the legal limit of 70% light in NY, the installer assured me that his clients almost never got pulled over, and it wouldn't be a problem. Well, last night, exactly THREE DAYS after getting the tints, I was driving towards Times Sq on Broadway, and got flagged down by cops. Apparently they do this "safety check" thing near Times Sq. It's really just a way to get extra money by ticketing people for seatbelts, cell phone use, not having their license/registration/inspection/insurance in line, and of course, tints. They were pulling over every car that had dark windows, plus any other possible violations they saw. I got a $90 ticket.
3) Ever since my 10k mile service last week, whenever I accelerate while turning, there is this weird crunching noise from the rear axle area of the car. I don't know what it is but it's pretty consistent, almost like a scraping noise. I'm taking my car back to the dealership tomorrow to get it looked at.
So, after 15 months of completely worry free ownership, I've had 3 problems in one week! Just bad luck I guess...
Attached a poor quality pic from my phone. Better pics on the way.

Thanks for the sympathy... Hopefully bad things happen in THREES and not SEVENS.
They didn't tear out my tints. Surprisingly it's not even one of those "fix it" tickets or whatever they are called. Basically I just pay the fine and that's it. They told me I should get it removed but it doesn't look like they are going to enforce it in any way, so I'll just take my chances again, and avoid Times Sq whenever possible. Fingers crossed that it doesn't keep happening, otherwise I'll probably get the tints removed.
