Default Tirerack question

i see a lot of you talking about ordering from tirerack.com because they have such great prices, but who is installing these tires for you? will local shops do it? just wondering because i have never ordered from them.

Tirerack's installers around me want $40-50 a tire to mount with TPMS. Walmart does them for $10.50

They'll ship them anywhere you want. Look at the installer link and call some of the shops in your area that have gotten good reviews. I bet you should be able to find someone that will do it for $20-$25 per tire w/ disposal.

Make sure you get their guarantee that your wheels won't be damaged during the swap.

Mounting tires with TMPS senors require extra care - those things costs $100 a pop you don't want it damaged during installation. Normally when you mount a tire you grease up the wheel lips and then push the the tire onto the rim with pressure. With the TMPS sensor sticking out it makes the task a little more challenging because you'll have to pull on the tire to avoid hitting the TMPS sensor and also you cannot get any grease on the unit.

If a tire/wheelp shop charges extra for mounting wheels with TMPS sensors, chances are they know the extra care required and I would pay them. Personally I would get my dealer to do it so if anything happens they can replace my TPMS sensor on the spot. $50/tire is a bit steep, probably $100 for a set would be resonable for Wheels with TMPS sensors.

I wouldn't trust Walmart - you get what you pay for.

If you do order from Tire Rack, please use the link below. While they don't offer additional discounts (not their model) what they do do (assumuing you order and link CL) is after x tires or wheels are ordered by members, they send some $ to Club Lexus based on the volume.

Please use the link in the 'How to order from the tire rack' sticky linked below when ordering. I'd guess we get less than 25% of our members who buy from them using this, but thanks to those that do

Les Schwab fixed a nail in my rear tire when I brought them the wheel absolutely free. No extra nothing despite the TPMS, and they quoted a great price ($15 per wheel) for mount and balance.

I don't know if they're all like this, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the one near my house.
