Default Dealer recommended winter setup-Blizzak 235s x 4

For a winter tire setup, my dealer is recommending 235/40VR18 Blizzak LM-25s on all four of the stock 18s. Are the 235s too narrow for the rear 8.5" wheels? Would it better to retain a staggered setup with 215 up front and 235 in the rear (as opposed to 225/255)?

Thanks.

Yeah, thinner is better, I'd go with 225/40/18 up front and 225/45/18 on the rear. I'm surprised your dealer recommended NOT going staggered, I was told not having a larger total rear diamter can mess up the computer's ability to regulate ABS etc. Will you ask them about that and let us know?

Why does a thinner tire get better traction over a wider tire? Is the difference that great or minimal?

Yes, I am also surprised the dealer recommended not going staggered. I spoke with a guy from Tire Rack today and he recommended sticking with the 225 front and 255 rear (or going 225 front, 255/45VR18 for the rear).

I'll call the dealer again on Monday...my appointment isn't until December 8th, so I have some time.

less contact area to lose control + it cuts through the snow...less resistance
