i hope my car never ends up in a situation that will test its safety-worthiness, but it's good to know.

Unfortunately, the 3-series with 35 points remains the best in class, although the IS is the best in pedestrian protection (who cares).

Here's the official PDF for the IS BTW:

Wow, what a **** comment...Of course while any individual is driving, they want themselves and their occupants to be as safe as possible, but it isn't just about that.

Stay safe everyone.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't notice the model year indeed. Makes it more impressive because the 2005 MY 3-series is really the same car as the 2000 MY. I suppose the new E90 can only perform as well as if not better than the E46.

Well of course it's good if everyone can be safe, but the fact is that you don't see any car maker's marketing touting "the highest score in pedestrian protection", do you? Right. And therefore my "who cares" remark.

They care more in Europe because they don't have the same right of way rules as the US. Pedestrians in Europe are far more likely to be at fault, whereas in the US, pedestrians are almost never at fault.

Thanks for the report. I'm sure it will encourage people to drive with even less concern for their well being and the well being of others. As a motorcycle rider for the past 26 years, I can say I am most afraid of Volvo drivers because they consistently do the most stupid things at the worst possible times. I sincerely believe it is because they are convinced they can't be injured or killed in a Volvo, acknowledged by all testers to be the safest cars on the road. Right.

The BMW tested is the E90, not the E46.
