Default Insurance Question: Is this normal?

I'm a 24 year old single engineer with masters degree. 0 tickets, 1 accident (last august) in 8 years of driving. My premiums were at 1035/6month prior to accident, and now the company wants 2567 for the next 6 months and will stay at this rate for 3 years

Is this typical? The accident was my fault, and cost 5k to repair...

shopping around now, and im finding prices that are even better than the 1035 that i was originally paying...
go figure?

Anyone have mercury auto insurance? Theyre quoting me 800/6 months...

yeah i live the DC metro area...just so you know 495 traffic is probably worse than LA traffic. I know you look and see virginia and automatically think oh this kid is from the docks...but no sir..arlington is basically dc but on the other side of the river. Bottom line..your "Californian Insurance" is banging you in the ****.

I have Mercury, and they provided me the best quote compared to a lot of companies.

I've had no trouble with their service. They've helped me as much as possible, as well as my family who also use their services. My sister didn't have problems when she totalled her car a while back...

As for your situation, the insurance will be high because of your accident, as well as you being less than 25 years of age, and being a male (are you?). Having a fast luxury car doesn't help either...

the reviews for mercury don't seem to be that great :X
After checking out about 10 sites, the 3 cheapest are:

Mercury: 750/6month
21st Century 1286/6month
Geico 1323/6month
Liberty Mutual: 1388/6months

Between mercury and 21st century is like 500 bucks... crazy =/
I had 21st century for 7 years prior to buying my new car, and i never had a problem with them (never filed a claim :P no tickets )

what do you guys suggest?

If that is Geico Insurance telling you it will stay that way for 3 years switch companies. It will drop but not by much. I was in a no fault accident with a police car while sitting at a red light. The odd thing about it is I was penalized basically for being insured and in an accident with a police car. The county's insurance would not cover my car, they would only cover me if I was uninsured so I had a payout on my insurance.

I'm with state farm...and they really do take care of you like family. You see their commercials and most of the time you say what kind of company would do that? Well state farm may be a little more pricey on its rates. But they really do take care of you.

I couldn't agree more! You know my rates seemed to drop even more when we started sending X-Mas presents to our agent
They are a little more pricey, but whenever I have needed them, they were there...just like a GOOD NEIGHBOR

I moved from the bay area in California to the dc area, my rates were nearly identical... Go with mercury...

also, check liberty mutual, they were the lowest for me, but I didn't have any accidents on my record...

Finally, you may want to raise your collision deductible up to $1000, that will significantly lower your premiums... Remember, your collision deductible covers only one thing - Your car in an accident that is your fault... If you are confident in your ability to drive, and you don't think you will be in an accident that is your fault, then raise your collision deductible up to $1000.

Good luck!

We all know as soon as you do this...you will immediately get into an accident, and on this glorious day it so happens to be your fault. Now you're thinking to yourself- I'm screwed. If you make over 200k this shouldnt be a problem though.

Another suggestion, try Amex Assurance (through American Express). We get coverage on our IS 250 (07, AWD) and RX 330 (05) for about $650 for 6 months, with $250 deductible, full coverage including rental car and roadside assist. But then, we're the old farts of the forum and are way outside the standard age curve here.
