Default Sharkfin on 2006 Models

Anybody out there try to put a sharkfing on their 2006 IS350? How hard is it to install? I know you need to drill two holes.

I'm sure it'd be pretty hard guessing that the sharkfin serves as an antenna...meaning rerouting wires I suppose?
Its not worth the hassle imo..

I prefer the non-fin look. Personally haven't had any reception issues with radio, GPS etc... no reason.

I was wondering about this too. Not that I want to put it on or anything.... But, what might keep a douchbag dealer from putting a sharkfin in a 2006 model and modifing some other features to sell it as 2007??

VIN # would be the stop. They would be caught in a heartbeat!

someone did it before. he didn't drill or anything... just used adhesive. he basically cut off the parts of the sharkfin that sticks out and goes into the roof. it's a dummy antenna so it was done purely for looks.

I think the only reason to put one on would be to make your 06 look like an 07.

The reason I'm asking is because I want to use the xm antenna on the sharkfin for better reception not for the look. I would not go to all the trouble for a look, I always go by function first then look. How hard is it to take down the headliner? Any picture for installing the sharkfin?

My understanding is that the sharkfin antenna is a cell phone antenna. It does not facilitate the radio, gps, or xm antennas.

The shark fin is the antenna for the XM receiver.
I saw the install guide.
Excellent reception, never a drop-out.

Considering that the IS is not available with a factory installed cell phone, your understanding makes no sense.

so is that mean you have to have the MX radio in order to install the Shark Fin antenna?

No, but it does mean that you'll realize absolutely no benefit frlom installing it unless you have XM. It's a tacked on item that doesn't provide any aesthetic benefit, and I can't imagine why anyone would be driven to install one if it serves no function.

According to BMW's website, the fin contains a cell phone antenna for their "Onstar" like service and that if you buy a phone dock for your bluetooth phone, you can use the antenna in the car for better reception. Maybe that's what he was thinking.

The IS offers no such feature.
