Sewell 06 Nav DVD w/rebate
Hey Folks -
Just got email from lexus-parts.com advertising a discount on a new nav dvd if you turn in the old one.
http://www.sewellparts.net/navigation_data2006.htm
Can anyone confirm that installing this update will disable the destination input override? I'm holding a glimmer of hope that it will just let me use the data and not change the firmware.
Thanks,
Matt

Let's see. $288 - 40 = $248... for a disc that you have no idea of what, if any, changes in your area were even made? And, if you turn in your old disc, you can't go back to v5.1. Pre-order? I don't think so.

I agree with CWS. For the IS, it's not worth it to upgrade a Gen V Nav with version 5.1, unless you know for certain that your local area maps have been significantly updated. Most of these maps are the same ones used by Navtech or Mapquest, so you can check your own area online to see if the updates are significant . . .

Yep the new disc is probably not for you. If you have to do a financial assessment to see if it is worth it, it's probably not going to be. The disc is mostly aimed to the person who wants to get the latest POIs and who already knows there are routing and road issues in their area and can maybe benefit from either. Of course, it would be wise to still check to see if the updates will benefit you (a preview would be nice), especially the roads; but for me, living in an area where the POIs can do nothing but get better year after year, the upgrade for me is a no brainer even if I don't get a single brand new road lol. The only thing that would stop me is disc availability (supply) and if it were cost prohibitive and $288 isn't cost prohibitive. So for me, $40 rebate is simply a bonus.
HOWEVER, I hesitate for just a second or two until there is resolution on the Nav Override situation. Not that it will completely stop me because entering Nav destinations while in motion is not a priority for me but I want to go into this fully informed after that piece and anything else that might come up.

The following DVD Navigation System Update applies to all Lexus models with the Generation 5 Navigation System.
IS250/350
RX350
ES350
Note: This is a navigation disc for the aforementioned models. It is not an update as these models are currently equipped with this navigation disc.

Sorry, you are 100% wrong. What you are quoting is from the 2005 disc (which came with the 2006 IS). This thread is about the 2006 disc (which comes with the 2007 IS).
This is V6.01, as comes with the 2nd gen 2007 IS. The 2nd gen, 2006 IS came with V5.1. So it is a newer disc.

I got the same email from sewell. I followed the link from the email and was just quoting what the Sewell website said for the 2006 IS250/350. They make it sound like the '06 already has this disc and you would only need to order it if yours is missing/defective.
"Note: This is a navigation disc for the aforementioned models. It is not an update as these models are currently equipped with this navigation disc. "
I wonder why they put that note on the update disc page for the 2006s?
Sorry, I guess I read Sewells website wrong?

Sewell has not updated their website yet. The 2007 (V6.01) disc is not out yet. The link at the top of this page is an ad for the upcoming disc. If you follow the link in that ad to Sewell's website, you will see the current 2006 (V5.1) disc. So you weren't wrong, you are just reading the information for the current disc, not the new disc. The new disc comes out later this year.
LOL, so back to the original question that was at hand, before I so rudely interrupted.
