Default extra buzz in steering wheel when opening door

after i turn the engine off, and the steering wheel retracts up and out of the way, when i open the door, it makes an additional bzzzzt sound but seemingly nothing moves or anything.

does any one else have that and know what its doing? i showed my salesperson that and we even sat in another IS and it did the same thing but he didn't know why its doing it. or if there's even has a reason why. anyone know?

In some position, the steering wheel will actually move a bit, it feels like it is being pulled by an electric motor.

ULTiMaX99 had it right; it's the steering wheel lock engaging. (To confirm, try turning the steering wheel both before and after you hear the noise)

Incidently, if you listen closely, you can also hear that same motor run, disengaging the steering lock, when you push the button to start the car.

Bichon is correct... it is the steering wheel lock, not the power assist steering engaging/disengaging.

I wish the IS had the automatic parking brake release like some other makes have. Sometimes I forget to disengage it. At least it has a warning if you forget.

Might as well keep the thread going, since it's already been aswered in other threads.
