Default Differential oil?

Anyone given any thought to what they're going to replace the factory fill diff oil with?

The RWD setup is spec'd for a 75w85 GL5. The problem is, there is no commercially available 75w85 GL5 that I'm aware of. The alternative is to use something like Mobil 1 75w90 GL5, write off the viscosity difference, and call it a day.

(Interestingly enough, the AWD model specs a straight 90W GL5 for temps above 0F and an 80w90 GL5 for temps below 0F. Finding a straight 90W GL5 is tough... there's only one I know of which is LE-607).

Any thoughts?

There's actually a table in the Toyota Technial Training Video for the IS250/350 advising which differentials need synthetic lubricants, and which don't. The "pretorque" differentials require synthetic. The optional Torsen for the 250 and the AWD do not. Yeah, I don't get it either, but it's just one of the things I've come across while learning about this platform.

Apparently 75w-85 GL-5 is not unusual in Japan. Lubrolene makes a product called Multi-gear. I found a site with Mitusbishi references and 75w-85 GL-5. Other than that, yes, it is very difficult to find 75w-85 GL-5.

How about LE-9921 (full synthetic 75W-90)? I was a big fan of LE-607 in my S2000.

Or LE-9919? It is also a full synthetic 75W-90, and I don't know how it differs from LE-9921.

It's not the synthetic/non-synthetic issue I'm worried about (since I'll use synthetic regardless), it's the viscosity. I can't find a 75w85 GL5... the only off the shelf (or online) alternative is 75w90 GL5.

How about a 75W80 GL5 from redline?
