May I ask what you're actually basing this comment off of?

Agree. I would personally choose the longer lasting in this case because although these Dunlops may fit the partial role of longer lasting, they are still only about 25K mile tires and perform to that sport side of things more so.

Now if we were talking, some other tires that lasted 40K miles and not so sticky, quiet, sporty then the Sport will outweigh the durability and if put up against that Bridgestone it is more a clear preference. But in our particular case, those Dunlops SP Sportmaxx are not too far off the beaten path from being straight sport. Whereas those Bridestones just don't last long enough. Perhaps the nbest tires for the track, but maybe not as daily driver.

Personal experience with both tires. A lot more miles on the RE-050's, though.

Fair enough. I was considering the bridgestones for my new wheels as they're on special at the tirerack, but they just didn't come in the sizes I wanted. It's a relatively new tire but the few reviews that they have are all very positive.

Anybody know why the RE-050s only got a A traction rating instead of a AA? I know it's a wet braking test, but it would seem if they don't meet the AA standard, they might not do so well in the rain. Did they change the standards (again!)?

I have the Bridgestones and I have complained here about the ride being rough. The car I test drove had the Dunlops and I didn't notice the ride issue nearly so much. Maybe I was just distracted enough by checking out all the other aspects of a test drive, but I have to wonder if the Dunlops don't maybe have softer sidewalls or something.

And as for wear, don't both tires have identical treadwear ratings of 140?

Nope, Dunlops are rated 240, so one would expect the Dunlops to last significantly longer than the Bridgestones. Also, lets not forget that the RE050s are apprx 2lbs heavier per tire than the Dunlops. Caymandive has another thread going and he's got a nice spreadsheet comparing OEM sized tires: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...ght=caymandive
