Default Blackstone UOA results of break-in oil

I changed out my break-in oil at 4960 miles, and sent a sample in to Blackstone Labs for a Used Oil Analysis and TBN. I just got the results back yesterday, so I figured I would share.

So what did you replace it with and what OCI you plan to use?

I replaced it with Mobil 1 5W-30, and plan to change it again at 10K miles. Depending on the UOA and TBN at that time, I may extend my OCI to whatever Blackstone recommends.

So, you did in fact run the original oil for almost 5,000 miles and the report came back good? I have always changed at 3,000 miles and was not sure about the recommended 5,000 mile oil change. With these facts, then 5,000 miles should not be an issue? Thanks!

That's exactly what I'm doing - changing oil (full synthetic) every 5,000 miles (especially since that's the OCI that Lexus recommends). Looks like you got a clean bill of health from Blackstone - congrats and thanks for sharing!

I have my sample bottle lying around somewhere.

Changing my oil this weekend. Might just send my sample over just for info.

Great info! Looks like the factory fill oil can last till 5K. Buuuut....I'm not gonna do that anyway.

Actually, like most manufacturers, Lexus has 2 recommended OCIs. The "regular" OCI is 7500 miles, and the "severe" OCI is 5000 miles. Once break-in is complete, I'm confident a good oil (Red Line, Amsoil, etc.) would be fine with 10K OCIs and maybe a filter change at 5K. However, I will probably just stick with Mobil 1 and change it at 5K or 7.5K intervals based on future UOAs (and no track days).

Changing your oil early is fine for the engine, but is a waste of money, time, and resources. The only people that recommend 3K OCIs these days are those that have a financial bias (dealers, etc.) or those who just don't want to give up on tradition based on technological advancement. Engines have gotten better and oil has gotten better.

Agreed. I change my oil at the "extreme" interval because all of my driving is short, city trips (usually less than 5 miles) with lots of L.A. traffic and hardly EVER any highway driving, unfortunately. Sooooo, I'll be sticking with my Royal Purple/Mobil1 every 5K - it's just too cheap not to...

Not according to the owners manual. There's zero mention in the manual or service supplement that anything other than 5000 miles OCI's are permitted.

If you look online, you'll find the 5000/7500 mile option, but I'm pretty sure they screwed up and are presenting the information for the IS300 under the IS250/350 heading.

That being said, I doubt you'd have any issue running 7500 miles or more on a good synth.

On another note, I'm glad you went with blackstone on the break-in oil. I'll be changing mine out shortly, so it'll be interesting to compare the two reports.

It's also been said there is no real special "break-in" oil. At least for Toyota's. But rather, it's just regular conventional oil.

I don't understand why they didn't put it in the manual, but I really doubt it was a mistake on the web site.
