2007 Special Order - Is the Dealer BS'ing me?
I have made several inquiries to local dealers regarding 2007 special order for a IS350. One of the reps at a dealer seemed to ignore my request to special order and seemed to want me to look at getting a car that wasn't the color I wanted, without the options I wanted... I responded back and ask that he re-read my email, that I wasn't looking to get someting short of exactly what I wanted... (IS350, Sport Package, NAV, ML in SGM/Black Interior...) He responded back with this :
Presently, I have no pricing information on the '07 IS 350, nor do I know when the '07s are due to arrive. Lexus is presently still manufacturing the'06 model.
Obviously, if you are more inclined to purchase '07 v. '06, we can take a deposit and you will be that farther up in the pecking order when the vehicles begin to arrive.
I've read that several people here have placed orders on 2007's... which leads me to believe that he's either not interested in working with me on a special order or he's not up to speed...
What do you guys think?

I have placed an order for a 2007 thru a local dealer. I placed the order back in May. I was told the order was inputted in June and it WILL be for a 2007. Just last week I got a call stating that Lexus was delaying the build of 2007 57 days and then it would be another 40 days from factory to port to dealer, putting me around the Nov timeframe. Not sure if this info is truthful but as to the exactness of 57 days leads me to believe it is true. I have been waiting since May so a couple of months longer ain't gonna hurt. Also, it is true that Lexus has not yet released 2007 pricing. My dealer just found out about the sharkfin antenna last week. I knew about it a month ago.....thank you clublexus.com!

I feel your pain. I had to shop numerous Lexus dealers before one finally took the time to place a "TRUE" special order for me. I placed my order May 11th for a 2006, which will end of being one of the last 2006's made, but I was not going to wait for a 2007. Mine should arrive in less than 30 days now!! Shop around and get what you want.
The second line of the Reps reply " You will be farther up in the pecking order when the vehicles begin to arrive" just shows me he is not listening to you for the second time. Dealers get allocation info on what cars they will be getting from the port about one month out, so he will hope to find a car close to what you want. Then you might have other people in line before you that put a deposit down. You would have to be very lucky to get everything you want that way. {The sports package seems to be very hard to find}
Good luck in your search.

My suggestion is that you be a little bit more clear with the dealership with regards to your requirements. As far as the dealership is concerned, you want a car and then they have a whole lot of ways to try to get you one. If you only know of one way you want to get that car, I suggest you spell it out in no uncertain terms.

Many (most) dealers as a matter of expanding business have already implemented a pretty good Internet sales department. I visited the dealer to special order my IS350, but I did do most negotiating for a previous vehicle with their Internet department. I believe I was given a deal far better than I would have gotten had I spent time haggling at the dealer, as most dealers understand that Internet customers are savvy enough to do their homework.
There's nothing lazy about putting a request in writing, which is exactly what e-mail accomplishes. Picking up the phone and having a noncommittal chat with a dealer doesn't necessarily put you ahead in the game.

I've preordered my 2007 IS250 AWD in early July... for September production and delivery between Oct 15, 06 to Nov 15, 06. Dealer said deadline to order for that delivery is first week of July. But this is for Ontario, Canada. Dunno about the US.
Also, price increase for my AWD will be approx. $300 CDN/$250USD? (from source at Head office)

They might not want to preorder for you since they have no pricing yet... this is being finalized these next couple weeks... or they are just lazy.. haha

Is350
A sport package with ML is a special order our dealership does get IS350 with ML but we special order in advance knowing we can sell them later. You an place an order for a 2007 the dealer would probably order it in august and then dealer would then recieve it in Nov-Dec. But pricing might not be available till Sept. Hope this helps.

seems like status quo is 4 months to complete a special order vehicle. let's hope too many is's didn't get thrashed in that barge going to canada, that would set the whole line back. perhpas many dealers at dealership don't like to sell things sight unseen? imagine all the paperwork sitting around in one's tiny little cubicle at most undersized lexus dealership. infact i like the idea of the car being limited in it's production, less to go around.
two more weeks for mine, breakwater blue baby! i promise some great pics.
