ML Sound drops out
Hi everyone-
I remember reading something about this a while back, but did a search and couldn't find it. Twice now over the past two days, my ML system has stopped playing. The buttons for changing discs, radio, etc all work, but the volume **** does nothing and there is no sound. Waiting about 5 minutes, it'll come back.
Turning the radio on and off doesn't help. Turning the car on and off doesn't help.
It's definitely a dealer thing, but since it's an intermittent problem I wonder what to tell them. Anya advice, anyone have this happen to them?
Thanks,
matt

Just want to add a comment. I was playing my ML while i am cleaning the car, it played for 30 minutes or so and then it shut off. I dont know if it does that automatically or it's overheating? Does anyone knows?

Hey Matt,
I just picked up my car last weekend and this happened to me on the way home. Whenever it happened, I heard a popping sound from the speakers and then all audio would go out - no radio, no nav lady, no voice recognition. Then randomly, it would pop and then come back. Needless to say, I took it right back to the dealership the next day. Turns out that one of the amps for the ML system was bad and they had to order a new amp from the factory for it. Once they put in the new amp, the problem went away for me.
It sounds like you probably have the same problem. You should definitely take it in to the dealership and have them look at it. Since it's random and hard to reproduce, you should mention specifically to have them check the amp(s).
Hope this helps!

I posted that a few weeks ago. Mine went out on a right turn and then came back on a minute or two later. I got my car in Feb and only have about 2K on it so I am a bit concerned.

The Mark Levenstein system seems to have many problems. First lousey sound quality as posted by others here, and now electrical problems. The Levenstein system is expensive, so you'd think they'd get it right.
My car doesn't have ML, only the stock system, which works perfectly.

That's LevInSON not LevEnSTEIN. And only one poster has complained about the sound quality, most think it is a worthy upgrade from the standard system. I've only heard it in the GS, but if it corrects the poor bass reproduction (your choice of muddy or lifeless) of the stock system, it is well worth auditioning. (Not to mention the advantage of being able to play DVDs)
