Default silly newbie question- how can I know it's locked?

If I have the fob in my pocket and leave the car does it lock? If the fob is in my pocket and I try the handle, it will open. How can I know?

I just picked up the car a few hours ago. I am VERY happy with how it drives! It will just take some time to learn all the tech involved with it.

Car does NOT lock automatically. You must either press the button on the fob, or the button on the door handle.

Enjoy your new ride!

I picked up my car two weeks ago. I've left the car running! I'm so used to not having a key that I forget to push the button to turn off the car. I expect it to know I'm leaving so it should turn itself off and lock the doors.

LOL

to anyone who hasn't driven one of these that would sound crazy... thanks for the warning... I'll make a point to turn the engine off!

I used to think I was young and had a modern mindset, but this car makes me feel like some country bumpkin .

Didn't the dealer go over the features of the car when it was delivered? Mine spent about 45 minutes, and not only showed me how to lock and unlock the car, but also how to change it so that touching the door handle unlocks all doors and not just the drivers door.

Try valet parking, left the car running and forgot to give him the key/fob.
When I went to pick up the car he said that it was beeping like crazy! So
he parked it in the closest stall. (COOL maybe Ill keep doing that)
He also said it took him a minute to turn it off.

I wonder how far the car will let you go without the key/fob?

Not too carjacking safe if you ask me. Car should shut off if the key moves 10 feet away.

That would be a pretty bad safety hazard since the car would shut off while it was in motion and the power steering and brakes would not function. the car would go as long as it was not shut off.

True, just think of the same priniciple if you left your car running with a regular key inside, your fault if it gets jacked.

Everyone should know that this car does not have a mind of its own and will not perform any duties automatically. You still need to be responsible.

Instead of plugging the key in a jack next to the steering wheel, you plug it into your pocket. Add a few more goodies and you have our car.

A car will never turn off by itself unless there is an expected mechanical issue or it runs out of gasoline.

He spent some time and showed a bunch of stuff... but didn't get into the key details. He did show me the overide which supprised me.

SO tell me, how do you unlock all the doors? It is nice that it forced me to open the door for my wife, but I don't want to be seen opening the door for a guy!

Jay, Lexus or your dealer should send you a LPS paper that let you decide a couple of default settings (such as unlocking all doors, shutting down headlight, opening the back trunk, etc). Bring this paper to the dealer and they will set it for you. I set mine up 2 weeks after I got my car.

to unlock all doors when you open yours only
sit inside your car
press the unlock and lock buttons on fob
you should seel 4 doors or something of that nature on your display

still interested in the wheel swap?

You have quite a few options for the doors. Pretty much something for everyone. Right now I have mine setup to touch the driver's handle and only the driver's door will unlock. Touch the passenger's handle and all doors will unlock. When I arrive somewhere, put the car in park, and shut off the car....nothing. Open the door within 10 seconds and all doors unlock. Wait longer than 10 seconds and only driver's door unlock. I did all these settings myself without a visit to the dealership.
