IS350 door pillars are bubbling/pitting - possibly Tint Shop, possibly not
Noticed this morning that the door pillars on my 2 1/2 week old IS350 are starting to bubble and pit in certain areas:
Anyone else have a similar issue? My local dealer is going to replace them next week, they had to order the replacement pillars.

As others have said, the damage was done by a heat gun in the hands of the person that tinted your windows. Unless your dealer applied the tint, you are going after the wrong party.

As others have said, the damage was done by a heat gun in the hands of the person that tinted your windows. Unless your dealer applied the tint, you are going after the wrong party

Hmm, well I really wasn't going after anyone - I had no idea what the cause was, especially since its exterior damage, but I'm happy the dealer is replacing it.

I have the same problem! foking tint shop. will see if the dealer will cover it next week when I go in for my 5K. otherwise im going after the shop. thanks for the explanation on this.

Well in my honest opinion you should be going after the tint shop and either have them reimburse you for the tint or provide them with a receipt for the Lexus work and collect some funds from them..
They have now put a burden on you for their error.
If they don't learn from their mistakes, they will continue to burn moldings with their heat gun..
If I had tint done and my molding looked like that on my Brand New Car...
...I would NOT be happy!!
Also, you should edit your THREAD TITLE to include "caused by Tint Shop", since it seems to be a wide spread problem with the tint shops and Not the moldings...
Hope you get it all fixed up back to New..!!

That's crazy, I don;t even know why he'd be using the heat gun directly on the molding..
I didn't even think those guns got much hotter than a hair dryer, but oh well..

It may be a defect from Lexus, I have never heard of this happening before, I find it hard to believe any tint shop could stay in business if it was warping everyone's moldings. This appears to be a particular problem with the IS.

Maybe Lexus didn't design the soft plastic to withstand heat of +150 F degrees..
OK - I'll ask..
Does anyone with NON-Tinted Windows on the 2nd Gen IS have this Deffect / Issue / Burnt Pillar Moldings??

Yes, I wonder how tint shops stay in business because in my experiences they are having to redo their work and and the last one my Lexus dealer used had to pay about $1,800 to Lexus to replace my whole door panel when they got a burn mark on it (previous car) and I noticed another tiny burn mark on the other door panel but didn't say anything as it was leased.
Seeing that picture of your car confirms why no tint shop is touching my baby. Standard tint will have to do.
