Black vs Granite
I am about to place my order for an IS 250 Executive. I have decided already to go with the Cashmere-colored leather interior. As for the exterior, I have my doubts though: my choice is between the Black Onyx or the Smokey Granite Mica. Had the black been a metallic paint I would choose it without even considering the SGM, but I am a bit worried that since the black is not metallic, it will become fade and look old.
What are your thoughts on this? Is the black a good quality black? Is the SGM a much wiser choice?
Thanks for any input in the matter.

I like SGM better because it's a little more characteristic than black, relatively easier to clean, and does have a bit more sparkle than black.

Agree. My last car was black it didn't have a problem with fading just hell to keep clean.

SGM, at night it will look black. Plus what Philip said.
But in my opinion almost no color beats a perfectly detailed pure black car. But that isn't realistic most the time.

I love the SGM exterior, and wish I'd have gone cashmere as it seems my black interior shows so much more dust etc. I have a frame of comparison as I had the cashmere leather interior on my GX 470, and liked it much better.
My SGM exterior has appeared darkish blue in the direct sunlight, Black or navy at night, and deep charcoal at dawn and sunset. It's a great color, and my favorite of all of my prior Lexus colors (black, silver and forest green).

I have SGM with Sterling interior and love it. SGM has a lot of depth and a great shine.
Now if the rain around here would stop dropping dirt on my car from the countless construction sites in the county I'd be happy.
We had a drought around here until I got my IS350 and washed it, now it rains every day!

Considered the same SMG vs. BLk like you did. I saw the GS with SMG and by comparisons, really liked the SMG paint used by Toyota on the Scion TC. I was all over the place on comparisons...
IMO, SMG on the IS did not have enough metallic flake in the paint. I had them pull it right next to a GS on the lot and the GS had a tad more flake to it. It was too dull for me so I ended up picking the dull Black
Like said before, if you are certain about Cashmere interior, black is a great color combo, SMG is not. Blue with tan interior is hot too. Good luck.

...if so, wait for that.

I've never been a fan of the Black Onyx paint, I prefer metallic black.
