Is 2IS not mod friendly?
I come from the Nissan family.
I used to drive the Maxima before I bought the IS350 in February.
I've been reading a lot of threads here of people trying aftermarket springs and bigger rims.
It seems like there are alot of problems associated with modding the 2IS.
Is this a typical Lexus thing? They are made to not be messed with?
Or is it just because the car is still new and manufacturers are working out the quirks?
I definitely do not want to be an early adopter and pay the price by messing up my $40k+ vehicle.
Please explain this issue if you can.

I agree the IS has not been out that long...once there are more 2IS owners which means more potential buyers of after market parts we should expect to see more, its just a matter of time.

Ofcourse there is always a cost for modding the car. You just have to be within the limits.
I personally want to lower my car only when i get the H&R and Bilstein Combo. I Miss my MB ride Quality and the set up on this Stock 2IS is already Stiff enough to make you think twice on lowering it.
Bigger wheels is not a problem if you stick with 19's people have problems on rubbing issue because they put 20's or the wrong offset.
Make you sure you gather all the mistake that people have done and you'll be One Step ahead of everyone else

With the Lexus its like I cannot mod radio because I already spent $ on ML.
I want more bass but I dont think it would go over well with the ML system and would unbalance it?
I dont know.. it just seems everything is very well put together from the factory.
I know I would like it to handle/turn better on the road but thats my only complaint really.

I think a good portion of some of the problems you've been reading about on this board is due to improper aftermarket fitment. Most notable are the wheels and tires. People are going with wheels that are too large and sometimes in combo with tires that are too big. (Not trying to flame anyone, just stating my opinion.) You can definitely go more aggressive than stock in terms of offset and tire width, but some are pushing the envelope, which will lead to fitment issues.
If you do your homework and learn from other's experiences, then you should be OK.

since we are talking about mods, curious to know most settups of rims with the is350 which everyone doesn't rub is a 235/35/19 rim front and 275/30/19 rear, been doing a lot of research and was wondering if i could do a 235/35/19 front but change the rear to a 265/35/19 rear. I noticed that the 275/30/19 the overal Diameter was smaller then stock 265/35/19 was closer to stock with .2 of increase. Thanks if anyone can help.

You pretty much answered your own question... The car is new, and its no secret that 90% of aftermarket companies do not put the R&D required in their aftermarked parts, so it is up to the owners to be the mules. Because the car is only a few months old, there will be issues cropping up here and there until everything gets ironed out. It is not a "Lexus thing" it is a typical problem that can and does happen with many mods on ANY new production vehicle.

Would 255/35/19 be the same exact size as 255/40/18? I went to the wheel tire calculator and it seems to be so. Can someone elaborate?
