What's the difference between tinted windows and a exhaust or (enter different mod here)? Tinted windows help keep the leather in better shape and also helps keep the heat out. A set of lightweight aftermarket wheels will help acceleration, handling, braking, etc. A good set of coilovers/springs will help lower the center of gravity, which in turn helps with handling, braking, etc.

In addition, is there anything we don't modify in our daily lives? If you shave or put make-up on in the AM, are you a different person?

Another way to think about it is - why pour your money on something that depreciates in value? I guess if you have a lot of money and don't know what to do with it, it's ok. But I know people who live from paycheck to paycheck, they live in a shack, but they have nice looking cars with bling bling wheels. I read about people in this forum who could barely afford the payments but are asking about what kind of wheels look best. How about investing in something that appreciates in value, like real estate. Then when you've made a lot of money from it, go buy yourself the car of your dreams. It will look better parked in front of a mansion. Everybody wants it now. That's how people get burried in debt. It's all about priority, priority, priority.

I see your point with the depreciating assets, but who ACTUALLY follows this rule with every aspect of life??? You cant go saving and penny pinching until you are so much older, otherwise you wont enjoy your life NOW!!!

.......with the exception of tinting, will major mods hold the cars resale value with the dealer?

Exactly! As with anything else, there are extremes in both directions. There are many that live beyond their means and those who save/invest more than they need to. I say as long as it makes either of them happy, who are we to say how anyone else lives their lives/handles their financial affairs?

Heck, I have enough on my plate let alone worrying about how others manage their money.

resale should be fine but not with the dealer...more than likely through a person to person sale...you will keep the value i assure that

If a Lexus represents the "Passionate Pursuit of Perfection" then individuals pursuing further modification embodies that ideal. For the actual owners of those cars, their car will always be a Lexus.
