Default Please Have Your Dealer Provide the TPM Serial Numbers for You

Background

This is a follow up form some posts I made a few months ago.

Dealer number 1 initiated my winter wheels.

Two things went wrong, they set the wheels as the first set and they broke one sensor (while locating the serial number).

Dealer number 2 reinitiated the winter wheels after replacing the broken sensor, still as the first set.

This spring I changed over the wheels to the summer set and toggled the control to second set.

The car did not recognize the sensors.

Went to dealer 2, they said they did a reset and checked tire pressure.

On the way home the check system light came back on.

Brought the car back to dealer 2, they said the car was toggled to the wrong set.

I said let's chat with the tech, who then brought the car back in and then said the sensors had been cleared out of the system.

Punch line, they wanted $274 to break down the wheels to get the numbers.

I said Lexus must have a build sheet. They said no.

I passed on the repair and called Lexus.

They agreed to pay for the job (I will bring both sets of wheels this time) and confirmed that they did not have a way to tell what the serial numbers were when they built the car.

So my advice would be to have your dealer put the car on the computer the next time you are in and write the codes on your service record.

VERY good advice. Thanks for the heads up. I'll plan on doing this the next time I have my tires replaced.

Already did that. In fact, I'm pretty sure good Lexus dealerships are already providing you with those numbers whenever they do wheel work. Mostly because it is time consuming and costly to retrieve those numbers when you most need them. I have both sets of 4 of my serial numbers on a printout. But then again, these numbers are all now programmed in my system so you really do need to know them. I think it cost like $60 to read these numbers.

That's a good practice.

I have the serial numbers of my winter set recorded. My mechanics actually gave me the printout when he programmed the sensors.

As soon as I need to replace the summer tires and take out the tires, I will definitely mark down the serial numbers for my summer set.
