I believe the cutoff is May for ordering the '06 cars. The '07 ordering should start about June right ? Should I just go ahead and wait and order a '07 ?

Even if you ordered now, you may get an '07 anyway. I don't know when the line is officially cut over to '07, but the order wait time is like 3-4 months and I think that would put you into the new model year. Unless the car you want has already been allocated...

There would likely be a blackout period when dealers couldn't place special orders, likely Aug/Sep (maybe even July). You'd have to order before that, take whats in allocation, or wait until they open up '07 ordering (likely late Sept/Oct).

I say it would be the same for the IS-popular states.
At least I know the area where I live, San Francisco Bay Area, the dealers around here sold out every batch on 2IS models when they got new shipments.
It is all about supply and demand. Look at our friends here who are still on waiting list, I guess they must be in the region harder to get a 2IS into their dealerships, or they only wants some special color on in/out combo. By the time when 07 2IS starts to sell, there won’t be many leftover 06’s around for you to pick. Even you hit a good price 06’ model, watch out for its mileage because it might be a Demo/TestDrive model.
Good luck with the shopping. I am sure you will get one you like does not matter it’s a 06’ or 07’.

Unless you get a REALLY good deal on an '06 wait for the '07. Most custom orders are full MSRP unless you are lucky, so you will probably lose around $5k when you drive it off the lot for initial ownership depreciation + previous model year depreciation.

I thought you got the best deal when they are ordered as oppossed to when in stock.
My only problem with waiting is it seems the '07's won't be out till late in '06. I have a baby on the way in Sept and have to trade my C5 Vette in for something a little more roomy.

Hey guys.....What are the odds of the IS500 or any coupe coming out this year ? I really would prefer a coupe, so if I know it is coming out this year I would just wait for that.

Nope, most custom orders are full MSRP (personal experience and most others on this forum) - dealer has no incentive to give you a good deal. I'm not sure if they get holdbacks, etc. on custom orders like they do on their allocations. The ones on the lot are the ones the dealer has money tied up in, and if they don't sell them, they eat it on the interest etc. Also, they get holdback, advertising cost, etc. so they can cut you a better deal off MSRP.
