Default I have a 2IS tire question?

Mods can you please leave this thread here in the 2IS forums.

I just got word that my wheels are coming in, but I am trying to decide on what size rear tire I should get. 275/30/19 or 275/35/19?

First off the wheels are volk gt-7 19", 8.5 front and 9.5 rear with both +36 offsets. I am going with BFGoodrich KDW's, and I already know that 235/35/19 fits best up front. I really want 245's up front but I know they will rub bad with my offsets.

I am just worried about bending my rims here in las vegas. I bent all 4 on my 05 S4 (they were axis wheels and I know volks are stronger) but do you think the extra .5 inches of sidewall will help prevent damage? What are the pros and cons of going 35 series versus 30 series?

Can't really answer to your tire question except that it was recommended to me to go with 275/30/19 because that would most clostly match original diameter (something to that effect...sorry).

but i can say I can't wait to see pics. Are you gonna lower it?

That is not so true. If you go to 1010tire.com and use their tire size calculator it will show you the real difference. Here are the numbers for the rear tire size:

Stock Tire Size
255/40/18
section width - 10.03 in
overall diameter -26.03 in
sidewall height- 4.01 in
radius 13.01 in
circumference-81.77 in
revs per mile 799.0
actual speed @ 60 mph- 60mph

275/30/19
section width-10.82
overall diameter-25.49
sidewall height-3.24
radius-12.74
circumference-80.07
revs per mile-816
actual speed @60mph-61.2mph

275/35/19
section width-10.82
overall diameter-26.57
sidewall height-3.78
radius-13.28
circumference-83.47
revs per mile-782.8
actual speed @ 60mph-58.7mph

Look at your original tire sizes. 225/40R18 front and 255/40R18 back. That makes the diameter of the front tire 25.1" and the rear is 26". Getting a 235/35R19 nets a 25.48" diameter front. But doing a 275/30R19 rear nets a 25.5" diameter. This set-up would be fine if you had a premium package 350 or 250 with the 225/45R17 tires, but not on the luxury or sport packages. Good luck on getting the sensors installed. Those Volk wheels require an l-bend valve stem.

All I am worried about is bending the rims. I am also going to lower my car with coilovers here in the next few weeks. I also am planning to do the wheel barrow tire trick for the sensors.

I'd get the 35 in the rear also. You're going with a larger overall diameter in the front so you might as well go larger in the rear to keep the stagger as close to optimal as possible.

I think that a 245/35/19 and 275/35/19 will be fine. there should be no issues with running the 245/35 up front. i run a 225/35/20 and the overall diameter is 26.2" and its lowered. i think the 245/35/19 is like 25.5"? hurry up and get your wheels on and post some pics!

both 275/30/19 or 275/35/19?

But I will go with 275/35/19.

I will go with 20"s if I will go an upgrade price on 20" Tires will be lower in the future, if you are looking for a wheel and tire upgrade go with 20"s.

pros and cos of going to 30 series
pro you will be a better handling cause of the lower profile, VERY VERY little improvement.
cons you will have a stiffer ride, and more $$$ for Tire.

cost of Tire depends on the series and speed rating.

just when I was set on 30Series this thread comes up again! I originally wanted 35s too but the pioneers all choose 30s, wasn't it something to do with filling the wheel well in the front being the only reason there were 35s up front?

i suggest the 245/35 and 275/35 since you are worried about bending the wheels. either choice will work.

I am pretty set on going 275/35/19 rear and i think I am going to just try the 245/35/19 front and see how it turns out. From what I have read on the forums, it seems people that have stock height cars should be fine, but with the JIC coilovers it might be a different story.
