Default How Many Miles Were On Your 2Is When You Bought It ? (merged threads)

Hello everyone. Just want to say this forum is awesome. Such nice people too. One member is even introducing me to dealers and giving me tips on buying an IS. Anyways, my friend told me that a car with more than 2 miles on it is used and I should ask for a grand off MSRP if it has more than 2 miles. Was not sure if this was true. If it isn't, what is a safe number of miles on a car before purchase? Thanks in advance

Keep in mind a couple of miles will always be put on during the PDI.

I generally accept up to 10 -15 miles on a new car purchase.

My 06 GX470 had 3 miles on it when I took delivery of it. I figure they had to go a half mile up the road to fill the thing up prior to delivery. Anything over 10 miles and I consider that a used vehicle.

It all depends on if your car was selected for additional QA at the factory or when it arrived in the States. My car had 26 miles on it when I got it and I know the dealer only put on 1 for the pre-delivery road test.

Only 12 on mine as they handed me the "key". I told them if there was more than 20 miles on it I would walk. Not sure that I REALLY meant it but I did not want a car that had been "tested" or used for a quick demo ride. Mine was the first one that the dealer had gotten in with PCS and I was afraid someone would want to try it out.

Mine had 12 miles and I got it directly from Toyota Torrance headquarters. The additional miles come from Toyota/Lexus inspection done at Japan and when it arrives in the US.

I bought my 2001 IS 300 "new" never registered with over 6K on her. It was used by a Lexus executive, the idea being to get the car out in the public during initial release. My reward for buying this car was full warranty and milage from the day I took ownership and $5,000 off the sticker of a fully loaded IS. I'd buy another the same way. The car currently has over 80,000 miles with not problems.

There is no number of miles on the odo that will transform a car from new to used in a legal sense. A car is "used", meaning that it cannot be sold as "new", once it has been titled. I'd be very surprised if any dealership would discount a car by any amount for "low" miles on the odo. As someone here suggested, a minimum number of miles on a car is to be expected and should be acceptable.

I'd personally expect mileage to be under 50 at most (and thats high as is). Everyone whom I've seen buy new cars, have bought their vehicles with under 20 miles. 2 miles is actually nothing (if its a demo or was transported locally, it must be driven a bit after putting the fuses in). The other day my friend and I test drove a new MX-5 and put 7 miles on it, we came back and it had 11, and he still bought it.

I just checked my records on the Plymouth Duster 340 I bought new 36 years ago. (and still have) It had 100 miles on it when I took delivery. What was I thinking? Maybe that memory is why I was so paranoid about miles on my new IS.
