I was wondering what most of you do with your OEM wheels +/- tires if you get aftermarket wheel/tire combos?

I am planning on ditching the OEM 17 tires on my 250 AWD when I get it and mount snow tires on the OEM 17s and then get a set of 18" G-Spyders and put performance tires on them. Should I try to sell the 17s OEM tires? Negotiate to give it back to the dealer somehow if possible?

some dealer will take the trade, but this don't happen often.
and you never get good money for those tires, cause after all they are use tire.

you can trade those tires for a set of snow tire, in any tire shop.
most of the tire shop will buy your used tire.

With PA seasonal changes, keep the OEM 17"s for gripping winter handling, and have the G-Spiders for sporty summer performance.

Burn out!
or
Tire places usually charge a small fee to throw it away and you can probably sell the OEM rims to someone that has damaged theirs.

Whenever I get aftermarket wheels/tires, I keep the OEM wheels/tires just in case I have a blowout or damage a wheel. Whenever I see someone with 3 aftermarket wheels and a spare or donut, I just laugh and think it's the most hideous thing you can see. I would rather keep my O***s to swap out if necessary.

I plan to sell the tires and use the stock wheels as track/autox wheels.
Right now it looks like the best bet is to get some Toyo RA-1's in 225/40ZR18 Front and 245/40R18 Rear. Too bad HoHos don't have the proper sizes in either the A3S05 or R3R05.

For those that haven't tried either, start with an autox. You can take the car as is, but competition tires are more fun IMO. For the track I'm not sure how the IS will do, but race pads and tires are a good idea.

I can't wait to get my IS and get it out there.

Good point but I plan to mount Blizzaks on my 17" instead of what is likely to be the Bridgestone OEMs for winter traction. I am now convinced that AS tires are not very good in snow.

I would just hate to toss brand new tires and storing another set of 4 would be too much space in my garage (since I will also have my 17" set for snow). I will see if the dealer can work out a trade or take them to a tire shop.

One other perhaps dumb question: If torrential rain and lesser rain is frequent in your summer months are you better off with performance all season tires or would summer high-performance tires do better?

Keep in mind....

I think the IS250 AWD will have the same size wheels and tires in the front & rear..

So whatever you go with or upsize will have to be the same on ALL 4 corners...

I could be wrong..

Both the AWD and 2WD IS250 have the same 17x8" wheel all around, but you still have to stagger the tire sizes on the 2WD, same size tire f/r on the AWD.

Ok - thats good info...

The thread starter has an IS250 AWD so he would need all same wheel & tire sizes on ALL 4 corners, if he deciced to up size to 18's as well..

Better keep them cuz the aftermarket wheels like 19 or 20 are easier to bent due to thiner side wall. Keep them for back up incase you ever need one.

Correct. Only 18" size we have found to fit is 225/40-18 on the AWD. You have to use a reinforced tire in that size and run 42psi for proper load.
