Default Oil filter wrench

Hey all i was looking to do an oil change, so i figured I would call the dealer for the wrench and the told me that they don't sell the wrench WTF. So off to the auto parts store to see if one of those oil filter cap wrenches would fit, you now the ones that fit onto the end off an oil filter. I found one that fits "ok " not sure it's going to work so I'm tring to see if any of you were able to change your own oil, and what wrench you used. Thanks.

I'm curious, too. Especially if the rumors I heard are true: that Lexus dealerships charge $250 for an oil change. Don't see me going there very often. I've got a 4Runner but it's such an act of God to do it yourself, it's hardly worth it. They used to have an adjustable metal loop wrench, a "one size fits all" which might work.

I used a standard oil filter wrench....the round type that goes around the whole filter. I had NO problem using it.

My Lexus dealership charges $100 for a oil change, but you can go to Toyota and get it done for half that. They use genuine Lexus parts but don't charge nearly as much.

Question

Can anyone point out where is the oil filter? Picture if possible?
Is it hard to do? and what about the computer reset alert in the car?

Thanks,

G.

Don't you think that it's dumb to sell an oil filter that you need a special wrench to remove but you don't sell them.

It is not a filter it is a "cartridge style" I was around $5. Basically you just need a standard filter wrench, spin off the housing, replace the o-ring cartridge (both included for the $5) and off you go! It is NO big deal.

The filter is behind a small "inspection plate" under the car in the front. It doesnt make too much of a mess to replace...not nearly as much as the is300 I used to have.

Not particularly. Dealers have all kinds of special equipment supplied to them for specific repair jobs. Dealers aren't in the business of selling tools.

And as has been mentioned, you can use pretty much any standard oil filter wrench (either the wrap -around band type of the end-cap type) to remove the filter housing. It's only torqued to 12 ft/lbs, so it should come off pretty easily.

And if you really want the actually tool that lexus uses for some reason, you can order it here:
