No oil change for 5k mi?
I just went to the lexus service to get my oil change after I hit 1000 mi and the service advisor told me that I do not need an oil change so early and that it would be a waste. He told me that because of the way new cars are made, especially Lexus, metal does not get acculated like older cars. He told me 5000 mi is what Lexus recommends but 3000 mi is what he recommends. Is this correct?

Had the same response from my Lexus dealer here in Canada. I asked for an oil change and he said that it was not recommended by Lexus,...they had just come back from two weeks of Lexus training in Montreal. First oil change is at 8000Km for me.

my first old change will be at 1,000-1,500 miles.. then the next
will be at about 4,000 miles, then the next will be the free one
at around 7,000 miles...Not sure how important it is to get
rid of the "break in oil", but it does make sense when you think
about it, and since noone really knows for sure, why not
just do it?

Those Lexus guys told me that I dunt need to change the oil for the first 1,000 km.
However, I will need to change oil if it reaches 10,000 km or when its 6-month birthday comes
Now only 2,000 km after I pick it up on last December

"leave it in or its bad for your motor". They just mean its not nessecary
until about 5k.. Also if you believe everything car makers tell you not to do,
then you'd also listen to BMW when they tell you to only change the oil
every 15,000 miles.. lol

I would do the first oil change at 1500 miles.
I read that this guy bought a brand new 2006 Subaru WRX. They have a cartridge like filter just like the new IS has so you can see how dirty or clean the filter is. He changed his oil at 1000 miles and the oil filter was BLACK full of metal particles.
If you want the extra insurance just change the oil. Oil is CHEAP. Who cares if you change it more often then not. It just gives me the piece of mind.
I change my oil every 3k with synthetic. I'm not gonna pay 40k for a vehicle and be cheap on oil.

I think the Subaru WRX is in a different case as its turbo engine generally needs more frequent oil change and it makes sense to see it more dirty for less milege.

Hi Clubfoot,
I am going to have my first 1600km check in my dealership the end of this week. I will also double check with the foreman of my dealership.
Probably he will give the same answer as the break-in period is already lower than before for Toyota/Lexus (Previously 1600km vs 1000km). Ditto for the 2006 Honda Accord 4-cylinder, its break-in period is also 1000km.

Once again, people are passing along heresay and just plain misinformation.
No Subaru WRX ever made uses a cartridge filter like the IS's.
Modern turbo'd motors can be run just as long on an oil change as any other car. Subaru's maintenance intervals are 3750mi for severe driving and 7500mi for normal use.
There are a plethora of used oil analyses to be found on BITOG that will show the boxer motor in the subaru is one of the lowest wearing made, and can easily be run for extended drain intervals with a good filter and oil.
