Drivers side rattle
At first I thought it was coming from the white plastic air duct under the steering column. Mine has a lot of play and sits on the black cover panel. After taking the cover panel off and checking everything out the noise was still persistent.
I finally figured out it was coming from the drivers door. If I put enough pressure where my elbow sits against the door while seated it stops. Anybody else have this problem?

rattles are usually isolated problems... just take it in to the dealer and state where the sound is coming from. If they duplicate it, they'll insulate it... hopefully ^_^
Good luck!!

Luckily, I haven't had an rattles in my IS. Coming from a G35, I spent the first few days in the new IS driving around with the radio off so that I can isolate any unwanted sounds. Well, it's been about a month now and still no rattles . I'm sure the dealer will take care of whatever rattle you're hearing.

glasses with mobile nosepads (people who wear glasses know what I'm talking about) have a tendency to rattle in the overhead sunglasses holder (this problem is not unique to Lexus but is common in cars with similar holders). Anyways, the problem is inadequate padding--I solved it by lining the holder with a piece of foam (the back of a mouse pad; the best is sound deadening gel/foam used in computer cases

I have a rattle that is going to be checked out by the dealership this week. Mine comes from within the passenger side B piller. It occures whether someone is sitting there or not, whether they are buckled in or not, and no matter in what position the height adjust is.

Unfortunately, rattles are very common in new cars. People in the 3GS forums were having rattle problems and many other new cars have rattle problems such as the Mazda RX-8 and the Honda Element.

Not every car will have a rattling problem. It is likely only just a small minority and it is usually covered under warranty. But if you do a search for "rattle", you will see several threads in the 3GS forum and other forums from owners who have had rattling problems.
