Question Trade 2000 GS 400 for 2006 IS 350?

Was wondering how many people would trade my GS 400 (see my sig about how it is currently configured) for a IS 350 that has Tungsten Pearl with black interior, sport pkg, Nav/ML.

I should note that my wife has a 2004 RX 330 which is our main vehicle for when my wife, daughter, and I need to go anywhere together. Therefore, I am usually the only one in my vehicle.

I think I represent everyone here who has an IS350 that we would not trade our new toy for a used GS. Don't get us wrong though; the GS is a great car. It's just that the IS350 is so new that the novelty has not worn off yet.

If you plan to trade the car with a dealer for a new IS350, I think that your project GS would be at a loss. Keep the GS, and get the IS350 as well.

Actually, I may be able to get what KBB lists for a trade on a used GS 400 with navigation. I probably would lose money overall due to the mods but I am willing to take that if people think that it would be a worthwhile trade. I can't keep the GS 400 and get the new IS 350 because I can't afford both payments.

Just would like to know, in principle, what would people do.

Thanks!

I have pondered this very question, as I have a 2000 GS400 (which I love).

The GS does not have all the latest gizmos, but I love the V8 sound and VIP look of the car (I don't consider the IS a VIP car, sorry). I did look at the IS and I am always surprised at how small the rear seat is (much like the BMW 3 series); a consideration for me, since it is my only "practical" car.

I'm going to keep the GS and possibly get a used NSX... or build a SuperFormance Cobra (with a 1-UZFE).

SoCalSC4:

My wife would agree with you. She thinks that my current GS has more "gravitas" or status than the new IS.

I personally think you should keep your GS400 for at least another year or so and get an 2007 IS350. I dont like to purchase first model year cars. The GS400 has a bulletproof V8. My friend has one with 350k miles on his and its still running strong. I cant believe it and the tranny is still shifting smooth.

Just keep the GS400 and wait till the prices drop for the IS350.

Why don't you trade for a 2006 GS?

Because I can afford the new GS 300 but not the GS 430 -- the GS 300 was too underpowered compared to my current GS 400 to really consider it. I could wait until next year for the 2007 GS 350 but it will unlikely have as much pep as the IS 350 due to the weight of the vehicle.

ask yourself how much you want the performance (speed and handling) of the IS over the gs.

to me, i won't get the is350. it's very fast and better handling than the gs, but it's not my taste. i love the v8 more and the gs has a lot more space and feel more luxury inside imho, though i have to agree on the gadgets

personally to me size is important (i like big), so i will either wait for the gs460 or the ls460/600h

If it's a car for you & not the family, I'd trade it for sure. The IS350 is faster, handles better, with newer technology & gadgets, plus I think it's the best looking Lexus sedan ever

I would agree I sat in one this past weekend at the car show and what a great car.... newer technology and gadgets out way the older GS for sure.. I love my GS but if i had the money i would get the IS... Its basically a smaller version of the new GS The interior and body lines are great.... Anyway, good Luck...

I'd probably wait 6-12 months and then decide. If your still making payments, your going to take a loss when you trade the GS in. Dealers may work with you more on a trade if the IS's weren't selling well.

I'm not much into the percieved status B.S. sorry just my opinion. But having had a GS300. I would definitely keep the GS400 if i were you. I love my new IS350. It's everything i ever wanted in a car. But like a lot of post has already stated there are some really cheap looking pieces of plastic in it that just should not be used in a 43k(amount i spent on mine) car. The 2GS interior looks better IMHO.
