Default Rear fog light?

Does the IS's rear brake light assembly have a slot for rear fog light (which is required in Europe, and many European cars sold in the US have a rear fog light)? If so, has anyone tried to put a bulb in it? For European owners, is the rear fog light tied into the front fog light, or does it have its own switch?

Rear fog light (essentially a unilateral brake light to differentiate it from the normal brake lights) is required in Europe, thus, all cars sold in Europe have them. Many European cars sold in the U.S. are equipped with it; for example, all Volvos have it. It is a compliment to your front fog lights. The purpose is to increase your visibility to others in poor weather condition.

How is it different from the lights that normally come on in the back when you turn on the headlights?

Most european cars have it, the bulb it self is really bright and thats soo you can be seen in fog or heavy rain. My eclass has a seperate switch for it.

It is as bright as the brake light. Since it is only one-sided, it doesn't get confused with the brake lights. Just an extra safety measure.

I actually get confused by it all the time because I'm so used to cars seeing blown out brake or tail lights as it is

yes, but brake lights aren't at full brightness all the time. Besides, like the front fog lights, rear fogs should only be used in poor visibility condition.

I'd bet the same is true for the new IS.

according to the japanese user manual:

on the car with no rear fog option, it only has the switch for off/front fog light.
on the car with rear fog light option, it has the switch for off/front fog/both front & rear fog light.

I dont have the rear fog light option but also wondering if I can put the bulbs in it, and modified the switich to enable the rear fog light?

has anyboyd tried this before? on IS300 or on new IS?

Does the manual say whether the front and rear fog lights have one, or two separate switches?

Whenever I see one of those cars with that rear fog light thing, my first thought is that the vehicle has a short in the tailight..

Same, or since it's usually a Mercedes or an Audi, I figure all the other brake lights are burnt and the driver's riding their brakes.
