Question What would you replace your current IS with?

Let's assume that the 2IS 250 is about the same price as the current IS300 manual.
What would be the replacement for your beloved IS300?

1 - 2IS 250 manual
2 - 2IS 350 auto
3 - GS300
4 - Nissan 350 Z
5 - Infinity G35
6 - Mazda RX8
7 - Other

I don't have an IS, but right now the new BMW 330i with Sport Package and Manual Transmission is mighty tempting over an automatic IS350

If I had money to waste, it would certainly be the 330 but since I need whatever I pay for with my hard earned cash to work...i'll stick with Lexus.

I would stick with the IS350 but since Europe won't get that engine, I'll go for the IS250

Agreed, that 's a choice I should have considered. But I did not find any way to modify the options afterwards, some other choice we could have considered as well is 'the very last produced' manual IS300!

That's something I've read as well, but according to me it's not been confirmed. However, the price issue over here is a major one. Visiting the Geneva motorshow, I've been told by the Lexus rep that the Is250 would be priced pretty much the same as the current IS300. That's already more expensive (€40,000) than a BMW 330i 'premiere' (€37,500) we are talking there of 204 HP vs 253 HP. The IS350 would then have to be tagged between € 45,000 and € 50,000 which is far too much compared with both the BMW 3 series and the GS300.

I then assumed that for these reasons, you are right, we won't get the IS350 but we will get the expensive IS250.

That's not what I have been told by Lexus Switzerland. I know Mr Alex Rey, Head of Lexus Switzerland, quite well and we talked almost one hour about the New IS. The pricing in Switzerland is not bad at all. The IS250 starts at 50,000 CHF (about 33,000 Euro / 41,000 USD) and approx. 2,000 CHF more for the IS220d. The final pricing is not defined yet and I believe it is going to get end of June until the official statement comes out.

I don't think Lexus will set the basic price of the IS250 in the same range as a GS300. Oh well, we'll see....

But one is for sure, I wouldn't trade my current IS300SX for a 40,000 Euro IS250!

That is much better than what I have been told. If it comes packaged with some of the goodies we read, it could very well be quite a deal.
My Toyota dealer told me today that they will get the definite price in June and that they may get early deliveries in September.

Too bad the 350 doesn't have a manual transmission =\ The auto w/ paddle shift is somewhat lame because all gears lower than your selected are still available for use (if you're in manual mode, gear 3, you may still end up shifting to 2 or even 1) =\ If they had a true gear lock, it'd be a little bit more involved and appealing but... sigh... of course it won't

But I think the 330 (next one) also will not have a manual transmission (right?) just like the M5 has the 7A/T right now... and people said they are waiting for a manual...

I think Benz set a bar for auto transmissions when you look... they don't even offer a manual transmission anymore. It's all Auto and they have quite an abundance of awesome track ETA numbers. Too bad the excitement of man vs man (in equal machines) will be dead while the hp wars go on auto pilot.

The price range is set to be as competitive as possible... that's why you see the "Value Package" (as Honda calls it hahaha) stripped down IS 250... hopefully keeping the old MSRP of around 29K or even hitting lower numbers (28K?) and grabbing a few buy-ups. It looks grim, however, due to the amount of additional "luxury" that was added... so we'll have to wait and see.

I heard the IS 350 was going to come fully loaded [period]... but I guess not. The IS xxxh will probably come fully loaded sans levinson/heated seats/etc (avail as options) just as the RX400h did. Plus it'll come w/ the e-CVT so there will obviously be no manual =P
