Does paddle shift on IS250/IS350 feel faster?

Feel slow in Auto. To me seem it's faster in paddle shift. At stop light and on highway cause you can downshift.

Its just a gear limiter. So if ur aceralting and up shifting the only way for u to overide the auto trans is if u upshift slower then the car wants to. Then you are holding it in lower gear longer. I suppose that could make it feel faster. If u upshift faster then the car wants to it will just default to auto trans shifting.

I don't think this is true. If u put the car in S mode the car still auto shifts. Even with TRC off. I sometimes drive in S mode with gear limiter set to 6, with Traction off and in PWR. Car shifts nicely. The "shifters" are not shifters they are just gear limiters telling the auto trans which gears are available to chose from. But the auto trans is always working.

For example if u have the gear limiter set to 4 u can be driving in any gear 1 through 4. The auto decides. If u set the limiter to 5 the car will not go into 5 unless it already wants to. You can't make the car upshift faster then it wants to. But u can make the car upshift slower then it wants to by using the gear limiter. If u want to downshift u could lower the limiter which would force the car to downshift.

Having both generations of the IS ('07 and '15) sitting on the driveway, our 2IS's do not shift any faster with the paddles. The paddles and S mode on the 2IS are only top gear limiters. The 3IS has a M mode as opposed to an S mode when you slide the shiftter left. Biggest difference when I drive the two cars is when you go to S mode in the 2IS it goes to 4, go to M on the 3IS it goes to 1. On the 3IS, you can tap the paddle shifter almost any rpm range in D to do a quick pass on the freeway. Even then the 3IS's transmission is rather slow (even in Sport mode), you can hit the paddle and it would think before shifting.

I'd only use S mode when I drive on a windy road where it makes no sense to have the overdrive gears available to shift into.
It has been proven by a moderator on the forums that driving with the ECT at Normal and the shifter at D with traction control off is faster than with S and ECT at PWR at a drag strip with traction control off.

When you move the stick to S (and are going less than 109 mph) you will see S 4 in the display.
this does not mean the car is "in" 4th.
It means the maximum gear the AUTOMATIC transmission will use is 4th gear.
It'll remain fully automatic between 1,2, 3, and 4.
If you paddle up to 5 that doesn't mean it's in 5th, it means it will now shift fully AUTOMATICALLY between 1,2,3,4, and 5.
The reason it "defaults" to max 4 is because it's the highest gear that isn't an overdrive gear.
And no, putting it in S mode does not change your shift points, the only thing it does, besides impose a max-gear-limit, is turn off the "learning" behavior of the ECU/TCU.
The best acceleration/performance if you're just wanting to floor the car (ie a drag strip) will be if you just leave the car in D. leave ECT in normal mode while you're at it too.

I redline and RPM cut off when it pass 6500 RPM before. I forgot to paddle shift 4 to 5 gear on highway with TC off. When TC off tranmission does not shift for you.
