subbed. I doubt that a good one goes for about $100. I was checking eBay for some used 9500's. Pretty expensive, but less expensive than a ticket and adjusted insurance rates.

Valentine one's are the best, $400+ though...

being in the same situation as you I bought a Cobra Spx5500 at BestBuy on sale for $100, has saved me a couple of times now. just keep in mind that a radar wont gurantee you from getting pulled over.. gotta just learn to slow down lol

Tomorrow I'm gonna call around and ask the local pawn shops if there are any radar detectors. Some scum must have stolen and pawned a few. I hope they're cheap.

Living with a student's amount of money is fun.

I have the Cobra iRadar 100 that I received as a gift and must say I was skeptical at first since cobra tends to get a bad wrap, but my model is pretty good and has saved me more times than I care to remember. And for around $75, it's paid for itself..

My 'ol Cobra has kept me ticket-free for years. Got it for my B-day like three years ago. Definitely was under a $100 unit.

I tried the cheapie ones in the past and they just don't have the range/response time that the expensive ones contain. I personally use the Escort 9500ix which has built in GPS. It detect Redlight cameras, speed traps, and detects cops pretty far in advance. Got it used on Ebay for around $300 something. Worth it IMO.

I had an escort 8500 x50 for years. Saved me tons of time. Sold it and picked up a valentine v1, but it picked up way for many things and was constantly going off. Just picked up an escort s3 so I'll see how this one is. Imo, escort passports are the best ones

I got Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector From Best Buy $380. They have many selection and cheaper one. Safe me 3 time. It give about a miles warning, but won't go off if police does not turn on their radar.

If you travel on roads that have at least a moderate amount of traffic, the free Waze app for iOS/Android is better than nothing. It alerts you to upcoming cops (and other hazards/accidents) reported by other app users, so it is definitely not foolproof.

It is my understanding that there is no legal way to avoid/beat laser guns (as opposed to radar guns)...except maybe special coatings on the front of the car. Laser detectors don't give you time to react and cops can ticket you for having a laser jammer detected by their gun. So keep that in mind too if your local law enforcement uses laser.
