trunk release on key fob
Hey guys, I have an 08 IS350. When I press and hold the trunk release button on my key fob, it'll unlock the trunk like its suppose it. My main question is if the trunk is suppose to actually open a little bit or fully? My current situation for the trunk is basically only unlocks, and I still have to walk over and lift it basically from the fully closed position.

It basically just unlocks the trunk (moves up a little). There is no motor or spring/hydraulic system to lift the trunk. There are old threads about this and how many people complain about it not opening fully.

This is the biggest gripe for me about the car. I hate that there are no springs to open the trunk and that it slams shut upon closing.
Whenever someone else uses my trunk, they would assume there are springs there, and as a result, end up slamming my trunk so hard that it shakes the whole car.

The IS has absolutely the worst trunk functionality I have EVER seen. I had a 350Z with a hatchback that was less of an annoyance. I have seen people post about draining their battery because the truck functionality is so poor. It's not just that you need to lift it to open, I could live with that, closing it means slamming or several tries to get it to close. Just an inadequate design.

Weel, I must disagree here. IMHO, the trunk works exactly as it should. The only problem I see is that's it's possible to lock your keys in the trunk. With the fob in the trunk, the button on the outside will not open the trunk. I seldom use my fob to open the trunk. I use the outside button to unlock and lift it up from there in one motion. Closing, for me, does not involve slamming. I just pull it down using the internal grip and it drops down and closes. I really don't understand the issue here guys.

I have mixed feelings about this. While the majority of the time, I wish the trunk would fully open wide (all of my previous cars have done this, and I got used to it), I'm often thankful it doesn't open completely when it's pouring rain or I'm in the middle of a typical Chicago blizzard.

Probably because you have to have the key on you in order to use the outside trunk button. Even if the car is unlocked the button won't work unless it detects the key at the rear of the car. Wish there were a way around this. I use the outside button too. I always forget to have the key with me and end up having to use the inside button on the dash. Annoying.

I don't have any problem with my trunk. The fob works and so does the unlock button near the license plate. Slamming the trunk is more of a personal problem. I've closed my trunk plenty of times without slamming it...
