Default Front & Rear mats wet - please help!!!

i have 2006 is350.

my front and rear mats are soaking wet.

my car smelled like mildew for a week or two...i could not figure out what it was...i thought it was me from playing sports and sweating all the time.

it has been raining here on and off.

i recently got a car wash from lexus when i did my oil change yesterday.

but the mildew smell has been coming since 2 weeks.

my rear mats are more wet than my front.

since i bought my car a year ago, i also noticed that sometimes when i take sharp turns, i could sometimes hear water sound...i thought it was my gas in my gas tank just moving around...i still hear this every now and then.

please help...what is wrong with my car???

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere. Has the car been in an accident before?

sounds like your HVAC evaporator drain is blocked.

This results in the area underneath both the driver and passenger seat becoming wet when the A/C is turned on. If you do a search, there's a TSIB for this if your still under warranty, otherwise its quite expensive to fix this problem.

What's involved is:
-pulling up the carpet to check for mold
-replacing the clog gourmet

Need to find out where the leak is coming from first and foremost... with an accident it could also be a window or sunroof gasket issue but it's also getting warmer so you are running your AC more (could a number of issues)

Links below have some good info on cleanup

like edgeucated said, sometimes the drain line for the AC gets blocked and the water runs under your carpets mainly on the passenger side rear. Get a shop vac and suck that stuff out pronto b/c it will mess your car up (rust/mildew). Might also want to look into getting a dessicant that will suck the moisture out of the carpets quicker or even pull the carpets if you want to be hardcore.

The longer it stays wet the worse the air quality in the cabin will get.

Also stop running your AC until the issue is fixed so you don't keep adding to the issue.

If you let the current water in the floor boards out, it'll just come back because you didn't fix the root cause of the issue. You need to check the evaporator drain for a blockage. If not that, perhaps the accident caused something not to seal 100%. My '06 IS350 had the evaporator drain blockage, which the previous owner had Lexus fix for free (TSIB) with a totally new carpet and mats.

Sidenote, to help get rid of the smell and moisture in the cabin, get yourself some DrainRid; available at any Walmart or grocery store.

You can actually remove the drain gourmet all together by yourself. However, if you can hear and smell the water, most likely there is already mold and your going to need new carpet and insulation.

New carpet and insulation is what's going to cost alot

A/C drain sounds like it is clogged. Water is now trapped in the evaporator which you are hearing slosh around from side to side. It is easily cleared out from below thru the drain tube. I would also check and make sure that the drain is not disconnected inside the vehicle as well, which can also lead to water leaking onto the floor boards.

And a little tip to dry out a car really fast and easy when water soaks the inside is to roll all the windows up and put the heat on full blast to the floor, A/C on, and recirculate. That will dry out a carpet quicker than you think.

GL!
