AC low but no leak according to dealer charging fee even though certified
Took my wife's car to the dealer since it is Certified.
She got the car 2 years ago used and the AC didn't blow cold air. They recharged it and it worked fine for 2 years.
We took the car in today and the said even though the car is certified we have to pay $150 for testing.
They said the car is low in freon but no leaks were found. They added freon and still no cold air.
They said the A/C circuit board is shot and need to find out if it is covered.
Why would the freon be low if there are no leaks?
Should I fight the $150 fee?

I had something similar happen to a Bimmer I had years ago. I was constantly re-charging the system, but techs were unable to find a leak when they tested it. Found out it was the A/C compressor pulley when it finally exploded.

stepping away from the a/c for a moment, if the car is covered under a cpo warranty, why in the hell are they charging you a fee, particularly when they found something wrong with a covered component?
don't pay that - talk to the service manager and if you get nowhere, talk to the general manager, and if you get nowhere, talk to corporate.

You shouldn't have to pay anything considering your car is CPO. Speak to the Service Director, or even better, contact Lexus, and or let the Service Director know you're in contact with Lexus and maybe that will be enough to set them straight!

He told me everything will be covered except the $150 which was the recharge for the freon being low.
I am not ok with that considering yes maybe the freon was low but that wasn't the ultimate problem.
Can freon be low with out a leak?

Extended warranties cover failed components, but they do not cover diagnosis...hopefully some of you can understand that and give the dealer a break.
They don't know if it will be covered under the warranty until they figure out what the problem is, and let's just say (for example) there was a hole in the condensor from a rock. That would not be covered under warranty, and then you decline the repair, and they are stuck with the time/labor/parts to diagnose the issue...the diag fee covers the dealer for figuring out what the customer can't
In this situation, since the actual problem is a covered item, it is not out of line to ask if they can assist on the cost of the diag since they will be getting paid to repair the problem...they don't have to cover it 100%, would be a bonus if they do, but any assistance would be the sign of an empathetic dealer.

No...the HVAC system is sealed, so if it is low on refrigerant then there is a leak somewhere. If they recharged your system and it took 2 years for an issue to show up, that might be the slowest A/C leak in history
Sounds like you just need to pay them to recharge the system and add some dye, then have them recheck for leaks about a week or 2 later...
